We motor in by boat, before daybreak. Once we get to the area we're hunting it's all shank's mare from there on out. Most of it is up, often times the side of the moutain staring you in the face. The upside to that is it's downhill coming out at night. It's some of the meanest, nasty ground to elk hunt on, but it's paid off too. I wouldn't miss my yearly hunt into this area for nothing. It's the type of country elk like to cling to.
Shoeleather Express. I have been guilty of the occasional ATV use, but sold the thing for 90% of what I payed for it new. Couldn't say no. Horses are nice out west.
I walk, sometimes several miles. I like to get to my spot well before shooting light. Usually it's about a 1/2 hour before sun-up
Always before sun-up when we are hunting.

backpack and boots. I gotta get a boat or a plane if I'm going to Afognak or Montague or Kodiak- but then it's all me. Me and my dad may do a trip where you stay nights on the boat and can halibut fish and all that next summer when he comes up, but usuually I just camp until I score, then pack it out and call for extract. Even whitetails now (which I can hunt out my bedroom window at my parents in north georgia) I still go out for, into the Cohutta wilderness usually, just so long as I am off the beaten path and have to carry my meat out on my back. I'm not sure why this is so appealing to me, it just hurts- BUT when your done its so worth it, and you KNOW you earned your meat ofr the year. Also even if you strike out you still had an awesome backpacking trip.
i have used many ways but the newest one and the only i like is a bike. take a mountain bike camo it out either with tape or paint and ride to the spot. it would be tough with much more than a gun/bow and a pack. as for getting the game out just use a longer drag rope. it is the best exercise i could think of for training for Africa where i will hike/stalk alot.
I always walk to my stand, but it is only 3/4 of a mile. I try to get to the stand at least 30 min before light, usually earlier.
Park at leazt 2 miles away and walk.
I use to walk but that was before my health turned for the worst. My deer stand is about a mile from camp and I ride my 4-wheeler with a silent muffler on it and try to get to my stand about 30 to 45 minutes before daylight. I have a place close to my stand to hide my 4 wheeler. I wish I didn't have to use it but I don't have much choice.
Drive the old Ford so far, then hoof it the rest of the way.
Diesel pickup towing a 24 foot gooseneck horse trailor. Ride Foxtrotting horses. Leave in the dark and arrive back to camp or the trailhead in the dark. I don't like to walk.
4 wheeler and sometimes a mtn bike.
how do you get to the game ?
you walk.
I used to drag a canoe upstream on rivers coming out of the north side of the Alaska Range and hunt sheep and caribou then float back to the Alcan Highway. I had some great trips doing it that way. I will look for some old pictures to post. Now we mostly fly in or run a river boat with jet outboard on the rivers for moose. The real hunting begins with the walking.
I try to be in the woods near my hunting area 45-30 min before legal light. Some days it doesn't work out. Once I left the house at 8:45 am and had a buck down a couple hours later. You never know. Don't give up, just because you didn't get up.
Drive whatever you own to the edge of the road, then walk. Hunting is the main thing, get there however you can.
Horses, leave in the dark and ride back in the dark on mountain trails many miles from a road with grizzlys, lions, and wolves in the area. FUN, FUN, at least most of the time.
