Petzal: Obama and NRA Ads
By David E. Petzal and Phil Bourjaily
I pass this bit of news along for what it's worth, being unable to vouch for the accuracy of the source (or lack thereof). You are free to draw your own conclusions.
Dr.Ralph:I have a really great Dealer.Any gun I want he will charge me 10% above his cost. I paid 289.00 for my MArlin + sales tax. The gun is a real jewel for the money. The Stock fits the metal well and the bolt is the slickest I've ever used. Love the trigger and the safety lever. Got mine using Rem, Core-lokts shooting l to l l/2" at l00 yds. Thats fine here, but out west it needs to be l" high at 200 yds, which my 700's all are set up such. You cannot buy a fair used gun for the price of the Marlin. Plus the stock does not have that mold ridge down the middle as many syn stocks does. If I had a choice to get with a hinged floor plate I would do so. Thats my only regreat. But will adjust to it. Here at home I only remove the one in the chamber and then drop it into the box., as I only load 4 rounds in my guns, rather than 4 + l. If can;t kill the game in 4 shots I need pratice. I do the same in the Rockies. That way I don;t have a full round in my pocket to keep up with. I got a 336 in 30-30 that I put fiber opric sights on for woods hunting. When I feel up to it, I will walk slowly above my pond in the thickets to hopefullly jump a old buck waithing in his Bedroom. Eating place is about 300 yds away. SO the thick woods is a great place to be about 30 minutes prior to getting dark in the woods. Deer here will hang up back in the woods about 20-30 yds till gets almost dark. My 30-30 is fine then, but during the day I hunt froma Ground blind with the 700's. On really cold AM's use my buddy heater to stay warm . At 73 my old bones get cold. Try the Marlin XL7 sure your Son will love. AS for the 740, hang on to it. I got 2 Autos in 742's one a never fired Centenial in 76 with the engraving on side.I killed my First Elk with a 742 BDL, will keep it till I'm gone, then my Daughter gets it. Only about 3-400 rounds gone thru the bbl. The XL7 is my 4 wheeler truck gun, as hated to beat up my Walnut 700's. If you buy the XL7 get Leoupold DDt mounts for it.It comes with cheap tin Weaver base and I bough Weaver rings by my stupidity. Now got the Leupolds and made all the difference in the world. The XL7 is drilled and tapped a tad frther toward the muzzle than most rifles. So get the Winchester RVF DDT bases and l" entension rings and it will work like a charm.( Guy at MArlin said the Winchester 70 base and rings will fit, and they do). I got my XL7 as soon as my Dealer got one in, its in 270, my first 270. Kinda needed something between the 25-06 and the 30-06, plus I wanted the knock about gun. Serious hunting out West, the 700's go with me in 25-06 and 30-06.The 06 700 CDL with 24" bbl , I killed a nice 4 x 4 deer at 345 yds. I also use Rem, Scricco's in l80 grs, as will be hunting Elk as well as Mulies.l50's are enough for Deer, but rather have a tad more lead on Elk. Leavig Thursday, so keep the clan straight. Hey, will have a new Pres. when I return?????????? Lord Help us this next 4 years. Take care. Shoot-um-straight and often.PS; I like teh Vanguard except for l item. Stamped on the bbl is made in JAPAN.But all we buy now comes from other countries, so suppose its ok. I'm just happy with the MArlin, and thats all that matters on any purchase, right? The 740 will be worth some $$$ some day, its a great gun. My Son hunts with one all the time, killed 3 Deer last year and I killed 2 her and l out west and a Lope.
Amen on the political target practice RMH. Pick a candidate, any candidate... and of course I'm not advocating murder. People around here print up targets with just about anyone's face from Hillary to Bush to Osama bin Laden and still a lot of Ayatolla Khomeini's floating around.Glad to hear you're Marlin is shooting so well. I wonder if I could trade a Remington 7400 .270 for one? It's practically new with less than 250 shots and the all black synthetic stock. My son who I bought it for isn't particularly fond of it and would prefer a bolt gun that isn't black. How much did you actually pay for that XL-7? I know it's cheaper than a Vanguard and I don't own any Marlin guns. Had a lever action 336? chambered in .44 Mag and man I wish I still had it.
Did my final pratice session today. Gun is now shooting 3-2" groups at 200 yds, about 2 l/1" high at 100 yds. Also got teh Marlin shooting about the same maybe a slight tighter. Well pleased with both. Now to finsh packing all my hunting gear and see if Congress will pass a Bill to give me about 10k bucks for this trip.See no reason not to as they gve AGI over 400K for a week-in retreat party to pay the managers for a job well done in lobbying the Congres for a bail-out.Maybe us hunters should hire Lobbist to help us?????. Shoot-um-straigt and often. If you see a Politician use him for target pratice, as thats about all they good for now. Hey, found out today we in a gas war, dropped to 2.99/gallon, in Canada its .99cents. I supose thats where the pipe line in Alaska is dumpig its oil now.
Thank God I will be in the great outdoors in Montana on Election day and will not know what's going on till November 7th. The screnery will be much more appealing that the tube all day and night. You guys that will be hunting that period of time, good luck and nothing we can or cannot do to change things at all. As, I do believe the elections so crooked now, that the Leaders all-ready know who is gonna win. When you get to the bottom of any problem, Money will be there. So in closing, enjoy you outing, look for great game and enjoy the God givern screnery to pass the time. I can keep my self busy just looking at the surrounding areas, small game, etc. And, just maybe that animal I want to come by my shooting range will show. My outfitter says lots of game now, not sure what teh weather will do in nect feew days, could change ythe pattern of the Elk. Mulie Pre-rut should be in high gear when we hit the woods later this month. After I tire of glassing, I get out my range finder and look the area over, be suprised sometimes, will spot a portion of a animal I failed to see with the Bincs.Anyway, its a good pass time while waiting and keeps your mind concentrating on hunting. I know of guys who carry a book to read while waiting, man, what you doing in the woods, you are hunting, not taking a course in English or reading. Just look at whats around you, no book will write about that. Have fun, shoot-um-straight and often. The old Gunslinger down South. PS: solved my MArlin scoping problem, bought Leupolds DT's and mounts and a new Nikon scope. So now ready for the W-tails when I return. Planned to take the new MArlin to MT, but fiddled with that Weaver base /rings and wasted 2 boxes of good Ammo.We all live and learn. Cheap is not always the cheapest. Quality and accuracy is better. Why spend thousands on a hunt and have a inferior set up to save a few bucks.Even at 73, never to old to learn. Good luck guys. Save and send us some pictures on the webb.
MDMike check out this map of how each individual county voted in '04... concentration camps of liberals in the megalopolis's should not control the country.
Dr. RAlph: Elk in Ky is about what I thought of w-tails 50 yrs ago. Never dreamed that i would ever hunt and kill them on my farm. So anything is possible if the right people get involved and stop the bad apples and poachers from takig them out. I will apply for KY & PA again next year if able. At 73, few trips left. But will hunt as long as able to hold a gun. I told my Pastor, I wanted to live to be 92 and be found sitting in my special chair in the woods on a hunting trip, with my trusty firearm in my lap. Don't grieve, as will be doing what I most enjoy. Hey, read in a magazine last night about a guy 99 and will be 100 in Jan. that is still hunting. Shoot-um-straight and very often. I'm sure burning lead now, doing a tad of pratice prior to MT. Went out to my range late this PM, got dark on me and target was blurred, so again in Am after I clean the gun well. Shoot a few rounds and stop and pack to go. Want to make sure all screws tight and the zero is ok at 200 yds.The Leupolds been on since bought this gun (DDT's) and has flown west 4 times and still on Zero at 200. But tried some different ammo today and foulded up the lands and etc. so got to clean and shoot a few of my favorit rounds,Rem Scricco's.Learned something, if your present Ammo works, don;t try others. I will not do that again, as long as can by my present brad and type. Good night.
Almost reminds you of CNN... except with about 3,000,000 less viewers.
Some journalist you are. You can't vouch for the source, yet you still publish the story. Good job.
RMH I heard the Tennessee Elk are doing well. Was in N.C. lately and the local once a week whether you need it or not newspaper said the Smokey Mountain herd was around 95. 17 calves were born this year and at least 14 are still alive... supposedly there are 250 or so at Royal Blue WMA.Kentucky is definitely kicking our tail. They say they have over 10,000 and are trying for 20,000 and the hunt is on! Claim the Elk love the Eastern part of the state where the old strip mines had been. Lots of open areas. Tennessee got a CWD scare a few years back and stopped importing them but now we're getting ours from Kentucky with a clean bill of health. Maybe if I make it another 25 years I can hunt Elk here... seems crazy but if you had told me the woods would be full of Wild Turkeys twenty years ago I would have laughed my butt off.
Did any of you guys DRAW a Elk tag for KY this year? If so and you go, plese drop us a line about your experience and luck. I applied, but did not draw.I'd like to hunt that area if can draw while yet able to go. Or, even to PA. Both close enough ( 350 miles away) that would be a much cheaper hunt than the Rockies. I understand they got some nice Buls in both states. Just hope the poachers in both states don't get trigger happy.Question for all "Western Hunters"If you saw a Wolf, would you shoot it????? I will await your reply before i give my thoughts on the WOLF killings of our big game animals, especially Yellowstone, northerm WY and South Montana.Coyotes are good target pratice. My 25-06 loves them.Bet would do a good # on a Wolf, especially GUT shot. Then he dies a long way from me.
WA Mtn hunter: Enjoy Colorado and have a great hunt. I think I told you earlier, if not, and you go to Craig, Co, make a point to visit the Western Museum off main street. It's a site to behold amd free. They got much Western stuff. i've been there 3 times and if go to Craig next yr will go again. Its, located on the eastern end of town, and nearby is a hole in the wall great resturant and reasonable. Good old country food.Ralph. Nope, no way we can all win and this year especially, as from my end of the situation, neither of the 2 or 4 is what I'd really like to be Pres for4 yrs. So I'm gonna stop even reading Politics on this Blog and concentrate on my hunt to MT ( if able to go in 13 days). Talked with the Outfitter, and we both agreed that the first guy who opened his mouth about Poltics, that he was going to be sent home. All in our party are aware of this agreement. This is to be a pleasure trip both in the field and at camp. I care less about DC at night, I want to learn what the other 3 guys know and maybe will help me find my game. The scenery is worth a lot, but as my heakth is failing fast, i would like the operatunity to get a nice Mulie and a Elk. But, that's asing a lot, So gonna enjoy the outing and pray for the best. Shoot-um-straight and often. The Old Gunslinger. PS; Read last night, that the Anti's areout to outlaw Lead for bullets and the Mfgers must use Copper, so if low on lead ammo, better buy a load, i plan to as i do not reload.Ammo has really gone up this year, ever the cheapos at Wally World. The Ammo I use went from 35.95 a box last yr to 61.00 at Bass. May go back to teh old Core-lokt's if still available and made of lead. Need a few l50 gs for here and l80's for out West, if I go again. If all the others sports supported their cause as hunter/fishermen do, then the cost would be down somewhat I believe. I bet the cancelations of Western hunts has dropped in pst month??? Not so sure mine would if I could get my $$$$ back. As the economy is in the pits. Ok, gonna gt and foget the mess, and read a new book on how to kill a ELK.
RMH, neither one of us got what we wanted. The very nature of politics brings in power hungry sub-humans with a will to take even more power away from the honest hard working individual and all of their property and money also... along with personal freedoms. I am of a mind that it no longer matters which side of the political spectrum you are on it is the people vs. Uncle Sam. And we are losing.
Rocky mtn Hunter,My memory is still clear on the FLA (MY home state) election. GWB won the first count and 2 subsequent recounts. Each time the Dems (found?) more votes for their guy. It was obvious to anyone they were trying to steal the election aided and abetted by a liberal Fla supreme court. The feds had to step in to stop a travesty of justice. The Dems used the same method to steal the governors job in Oregon after a Republican won the first 2 counts in another close race. As soon as they found enough votes for their gal they stopped the recounts.
Rocky Mtn HunterEnjoy your Rockies Hunt. We leave Wednesday for Colorado. I think your idea for for no political discussions in elk camp is right on! I think we should limit political activity to target practice on Obama stickers on the road trip! (just kidding of course)You have a great hunt!WMH
So you're the other one...
By the way, I voted for Ron Paul in the primary.
In 2000, Democrat voter fraud in seven Florida counties accounted for thousands of fraudulent votes for Gore. Minus the fraudulent votes, Bush would have won by a much wider margin. The liberals in the media report their own agenda and not the facts. Even on election night 2000, when Bush was leading by like 15,000 votes, a Democrat pollster Pat (can't remember his last name) said that with the precincts outstanding there was no way Gore could catch Bush. Then, when the Democrats knew how many votes they needed, they sent in that number from these democrat precincts and the gap closed. The democrats do this all the time, by holding out a particular set of precincts until they see how many votes they need. This is why the democrats opposed voter ID laws, purging the voter rolls and having everyone re-register, etc.I'm glad you mentioned California. The state spent all this money on research for global warming and stem cell research, which should have been done by the private sector. Now, the state is claiming that they have no money. Idiots. One thing that pisses me off. The Bush administration and Congressional Republicans raised awareness of the Fannie/Freddie practices years ago. The Democrats pooh-poohed it. Further, since 2006, the Democrats have had control of Congress. Committee chairmen Chris Dodd (D-Conn) and Barney Frank (D-Mass) failed miserably in their oversight responsibilites. As late as this past July (08), Frank said that Fannie/Freddie were fundamentally solid. Now, the democrats and liberal media blame everything on Bush and the republicans to get obama elected, and pretend that the democrats are innocent. Well, they were there too, and in charge of Congress since 2006. Dodd and Obama took the most money from Fannie/Freddie and the media doesnt care, because they are so bent to get the inexperienced minority racist/terrorist friendly obama in office. Many americans voting for obama don't even know that the Congress has been controlled by Democrats since 2006. But that's the way the democrats and the liberal media report it to the nitwits in this country, who are not trained to think for themselves. If you want to rid the federal government of all the corruption, then you'll have to limit its power to that which is enumerated in the Constitution. If the federal government wasn't involved in every issue of our lives, then money wouldn't corrupt Congress. The lobbyists write the bills for godsake. It's a hoot that Obama calls out McCain for lobbyists, like Obama and the democrats arent bought by lobbyists--look at Freddie/Fannie which gave the most to Dodd and Obama, which got us into this mess.Even the recent bailout package has all kinds of goodies in it for all sorts of companies. If you think that an Obama administration with the current Democrat congress will change the corruption in Washington DC, then you are truly naive. At least McCain and Palin have made positive attempts by opposing their own party. Obama's 140 days in the Senate have been highly partisan. You will see more corruption, higher taxes, more government spending with an obama administration and the democrat controlled congress. So much so that it will foster a republican resurgence in two or four years.
jir: what do you call the elections of 2000 and 2004 by BUSH??? sure was not the Voters who elected him. The Supreme Court 5/4 ( only Prs. in history to win by only one (l) vote did in 2000 and Florida and his Brother did in 2004. Dble registrating is as old as the hill. Both Parties are all guilty of that. A bottle or beer/corn mash/old crow/camels has swung many a election. Times changed, now it takes lots of $$$$ which the Reps have. I pitty who-ever gets the job, as Bush has it so screwed up, will take a miracle to untangle the webb.I'd vote to clean both houses of congress and the other appointees and start from scratch with common senses individuals and who would only serve one 6 year term, and never be allowed to be elected again to a Gov. Job. Plus, forget his huge retirement, let his 6 yr stay count as our 6 yrs of SS . Then we just possible get a honest government. I'm going to the Rockies and Forget the World problems if possible, as will have no tv or newspaper for l0 days of great fellowship and hunting. First guy who opens his mouth about Politics get his A-- sent home packing. O for the peace and tranquility those mountains will share with this old guy.Shoot-um-straight and often/ Hey guys if any read this, better buy up some Ammo now with lead core if you prefer lead as it's all going to copper soon, in addition to the higher cost. The Anti's saying the lead is poising us?????????First was the Birds of Calif. now its the w-tails and other 4 legged animals we hunt. Good luck. The old guns Slinger
ALL GUYS AND GALS,DON'T MISS HANNITY'S AMERICA SUNDAY NIGHT ON FOX NEWS AT 9:00 PM EASTERN TIME. IT WILL BE ABOUT oBAMA'S BACKGROUND. THE STUFF THE DRIVE BY'S ARE HIDING TO GET HIM ELECTED.
The gun grabbers are coming:http://www.ocregister.com/articles/permits-carona-concealed-2186181-county-department
Groups giving cash and cigarettes to register democrats multiple time. One guy registered 72 times. Another woman registered so many different times, she can't recall how many.If OBAMA wins, it will be an illegitmate presidency tainted by fraud, not to mention the terrorist connection.OBAMA VOTER FRAUDhttp://michellemalkin.com/2008/10/10/acorn-watch-1-voter-72-registrations-ciggies-and-cash/
Jim: Good to hear from you. I don't expect any medals for my years of banking, but it did teach me a lot. A pity the business world of today does not operate as it did in the lae 60, 70, 80, or evern early 90's. We have gone to the bottom of the bucket. My policy back in those days was, make a bad loan and it will haunt you till the end, what-ever that come out to be.Jon: I appreciate your response, lot of merit to most of your statements, but I disagree on McCain as not being a Bush boy. I appreciate his services to the US, but like all career Politicians, he followered Bush's directions. The old saying ( here at least) is a house divided will fall. I believe you will agree on that. No, I'm not happy with either of the 2 or 4 running. I think both parties screwed up in the selection of these people.Out statesmen have long since vanished from our country and it's dog eat dog now. I am 73 ys old and was brought up to understand ( family facts) that the Dems were for the working man and the Reps for the Rich. Believe you will agree, that during the past 8 yrs, the poor got poorer and the rich got richer. I just hope and pray, that who-ever sits in the WH next can get us out of this mess we now in.The fault can be spread to many,as it would appear that the congress and Pres were only interested in getting re-elected and the country could go to Hell in a hand basket, which it has. Lord, help the poor sucker who will attempt to save us. The well is almost dry, and the hole is too deep to get more water, etc.Until we get back to the bare facts of the business world, things will never improve. You cannot borrow yourself out of debt, if could have ,most of us would be rich. The Old gun slinger. I'm going west hunting and try to relax and enjoy myself, and forget for 2 weeks the mess we now end as few trips left for a old man such as I. Good hunting to you both. I respect your beliefs Jon/Jim and trust you do mine. Good nite.
A Democratic state representative's son has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Tennessee for intentionally hacking into Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's personal e-mail account.
Mtn Hunter:I am not a Republican, but a Libertarian. And yes, the liberals like Obama and ACORN pushed to force the lenders to give money to people that could not afford to repay it.Seondly, Bush is not running. McCain is not Bush, despite the Obama lies. McCain has proven time and time again to be independent minded, butting heads with his own party and Bush repeatedly, for example, earmarks, campaign finance reform, torture of prisoners. In fact, McCain has always been praised for quality by the media, at least until the media was bent on getting the inexperienced minority elected. Here is the bottom line. When one party controls both the White House and Congress, there will inevitably be a lot of mischief. It happened during the first six years of Bush, with the Republicans. Democrats have controlled Congress since 2006. With the Democrats in control of Congress and an Obama administration, there will be no oversight. The Democrats will run wild. It's human nature. Power will always corrupt. And lack of oversight is one of the things that got us into this mess. That is why there is something to be said for divided government.OBAMA'S SCUMMY TACTICS: http://www.nypost.com/seven/10082008/postopinion/opedcolumnists/the_pro_...
Rky MTN Hunter,Good to talk to you again.Boy what you said rings true. Back in '78 me and my wife applied for a house loan, I had a good job of 9 yrs and she a bank teller, but we had to jump thru hoops and do tricks to prove we were worthy of a loan for $34,900-7000 down = $27,900.Wish it was still that way.
Jon: I appreciate your thoughts, even tho not 100% correct. I was in the Banking Business for 25 yrs and our policy was never make a loan to anyone that we had any doubts about. The CEO's of today, wanted to make all the loans they could as it looked good on paper and their million's in BONUS were paid due to their growth. Granted, many mistakes have been made in the economy, they not all in the Financial world. Take any Co's CEO's did the same, regardless of what business they were in.Greed and corruption is the culpit, plus many home buyers told lies to get a loan. That is what a good loan officer job is to entail, find out all you can about the buyer, if not satisfied, requrie facts. On self-employed buyers, I always requested 2 yrs tax(certified) returnes. Plus, if a protential buyer was employed in his cureent job for less than 2 yrs, find out why the changes.Anytime you make a bad loan, it will haunt you later. All Dems are not Liberals, as you Reps so readely state. We all have our opinions and it's up to each one of us to make the correct, honest choices. I could care less what Clinton did or did not do in the Oval office, he made me and the average Joe more financial secure than any president in my lifetime. And on the other foot, Bush has been the worse since Prs. Hoover. My parents, grandparents told me how they struggled to stay afloat and it was pure hard work and self sufficient. To each his own opinion, I just voiced mine again, even after a few months ago, most of you threw a fit , called me everything but a human. Now all this blog wants to discuss is POLITICS. It's hunting time for me and many others who can afford to go West. Nothing I do or say will sway any of you. So let your HEART lead you. I;m going hunting, and let the chips fall. This may be my last Western hunt,as at 73 yrs of age, time is priceless. So I'm gonna try to make the most of a bad situation and enjoy myself. Will battle the economy when Nov.4 has passed. Good Hunting, shoot often and straight. One last thing, then I'm gone. Just ask yourself, Am I better of now than I was 8 yrs ago, if you say yes, I want your secret.
Mtn Hunter: This is the cause of the problem.Liberal Democrat policies forced lenders to give mortgages to people they knew might not be able to afford repayments. ACORN pressured banks to make subprime loans. Obama and the rest of his Democrats wanted their peeps to have a share of the American dream, no matter the cost. We'll they got the dream, and we will pay for it. Even Bill Clinton is to blame.Obama represented ACORN before coming to Congress. ACORN was also a driving force behind a 1995 regulatory revision pushed through by the Clinton administration that greatly expanded the CRA and helped spawn the current financial crisis.Last November, Obama told the group, “I’ve been fighting alongside ACORN on issues you care about my entire career.” Indeed he has. Obama was and is fully aware of what ACORN was doing with the money and expertise he provided.
Well---- Appears the 2nd time in my lifetime of 73 years, the Hoover days of the late 20's &30's are here again. Some months ago, I brough up the subject of Politics and was raked over the coals by most of you on this Blog. Now all you talk about is such. This country is on a down hill slide and no stopping point. But, have decided, regardless of who wins the WH in DC come Nov. it will take a miracle to bring the good old USA back to what we have been and must return to. NAtionwide the economy is in the dumps and getting worse. THe so-called BAIL_OUT Bill, only bailed out the one's who got us there. Saw that one Co's was using their $$$ to be received, to pay BONUS's to fired employee's. Also, why does NASCAR need 92 Million, when the France Family has ruined the sport. It is now a tad above prof. wrestling. I will be thrilled when hunting season opens again, at least can take our minds off the struggles we ll facing now. I had planned a trip to MT, but it's now iffy. Cost or out of the average guys range. Most States are reporting license sales down. I pitty the guy who's retirement was in the Stock Market, as its over 50% gone and yet going. Bush has really done a number on us and many of you think the Clinton adminstration was stupid. How I wish we had Bill in the WH now. Anything he did was super compared to Bush and his clan. All respect to McCain for his services to his country and POW years, but he is only another Bush only much older. AS for the other guy????????. Don;t think either one is the right guy. But, what do I know? I only know how this has effected my family and neighbors. The difference between a recession and a depression is, when your neighbor looses his home its a recession, when you loose yours, it's a depression. Many around the USA now know what a depression really was back in the HOOVER DAYS. If you got enough $$$$ to go hunting, buy a new gun you want and the gas for your vehicle, be thankful, as many will not be so lucky, me included. We need a Miracle now, pray we get one soon. If you can afford the ammo. shoot-um-straight and often.
List of Obama's most significant economic accomplishments:1. Held Hollywood fundraiser to raise $9 million.2. Breaks campaign promise by opting out of public financing system (only candidate ever to do so).3. Promises to raise corporate taxes, which will force businesses to lay off workers and raise prices.List of Obama's most significant legislative accomplishments.1. none.2. none.3. none.Obama's experience to be president.1. 144 days in US Senate from time of election til formation of presidential campaign.2. Dubbed "the one" by the liberal media because they want a radical minority.3. Can read off teleprompter.
Well, Red, having listened to Sally Lou mangle the English language one too many times the past two weeks, I eagerly await her admission of same.Y'know, there are old fellers in our camp who are die-hard rednecks, who say the nastiest things about folks who ain't God-fearing white conservatives. Does that make me a redneck? Does that mean I should abandon my ancestral retreat, because my uncles have friends with views like that? OTOH, do I think I can make a 65-year-old man become a left-leaning guy, or even try? No on both counts. So they vote their way, I vote mine.Sen. McCain and Gov Palin are grasping at straws in trying to tie Obama to Ayers and Wright. I find it especially distressing that that's their campaign focus just as the economy hits skids I've never seen in my lifetime - and she's giving the same "terrorist" speech two days in a row?I think it's more salient that Obama admires Dick Lugar than that he went to church at Wright's place.
Gman,Personally, I'll trust common sense over brilliance more often than not. The key to being smart is being able to admit when you're stupid. Good leaders surround themselves with good people and understand good advice.Obama listened to Wright for 20 years, so he either knew what the man was all about or was a fool.
Obama's has indicated that he will raise taxes on corporations. This means that the corporations will lay off workers and pass the cost on to the consumer by raising the price of goods and services.Obama's proposal to raises taxes on corporations illustrate his lack of understanding of economics. This, coupled with his lack of understanding of the Constitution (as evidenced for example by his anti-Second Amendment record), indicate that he shouldn't be president.WWW.GUNBANOBAMA.COMFurther, his pastor Rev. Wright appears to be a racist who doesn't care for the white folks. He is also an associate of domestic terrorist William Ayers.Ayers boasts that he “participated in the bombings of New York City Police Headquarters in 1970, of the Capitol building in 1971, and the Pentagon in 1972.”Ayers was an active participant in Weatherman's 1969 “Days of Rage” riots in Chicago, where nearly 300 members of the organization employed guerrilla-style tactics to viciously attack police officers and civilians alike, and to destroy massive amounts of property via vandalism and arson; their objective was to further spread their anti-war, anti-American message.http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=2169
Hey Gman, I guess I hear ya! I'm a little thinned skinned right now, having been told that "If Obama loses, it means most American voters are racists". I try to think of our economy in thesame context as 1960 and 1980. Kennedy proposed a large tax cut aimed towards the rich and corporations. Reagan did likewise. The reason being, that where the money is! We need investment in America. We won't get it with $600 rebate checks. We'll get that with corporate tax cuts and cuts in divdend taxes. Hell, maybe Reagan and Kennedy were both wrong, but if Obama is wrong, we could be looking at 1929 all over again.YooperJack
Yooper,I have read Obama's last book. I was impressed with his thoughtfulness. While he is not the most brilliant writer I have ever read, he is very, very good.My injection of race was facetious. I have come across more than one explicit negative mention of his ancestry on this very board; I won't hold judgment on how much of the "terrorist-Muslim-foreign" stuff is subtext for his race, because I can't read minds very well.I follow policy as a job, Yooper. I specialize in technology and healthcare. And I gotta tell ya, while Obama doesn't come close to doing what I think will ultimately have to be done in those areas, he has given both a hell of a lot more thought than Sen. McCain. Just because McCain has trouble using a computer doesn't mean he shouldn't have a concrete national telecom infrastructure policy; for those pipes are the Interstate highway of the next generation.I find the warnings of impending socialism here as funny as tragic. We just gave the government $700 billion to save the banks! This world is so very complex, and I am afraid a less-than-brilliant Annapolis grad (courageous though he was in war) and a political neophyte who couldn't put two paragraphs together without a teleprompter are not up to the task of navigating it as the heads of state of the good old US of A.Not now, anyway.
Huntin nut,Yes, the cost has been huge in Iraq and the loss of even one American life over there is too much, but remember how many American lives were lost on our soil on 9/11 and, right or wrong, since Bush took action we have not had another attack on our soil. Would you prefer to fight them in their back yard or your own? Heave forbid had Gore or Kerry been in charge we would have apologized to the terrorists for having buildings where they wanted to land the planes. But then, isn't that pretty much what Obama plans to do if elected, go make nice with them and see if we can't all get along? As to the 2nd amendment, as already mentioned, he in is on record as supporting a 500% tax on firearms and ammo, opposes concealed carry and handgun ownership, and supports revival of the Clinton assault weapons ban, which incidently eliminated availability of the Norinco knock-off of the Browning .22 auto, a real threat to humanity and the local squirrel population. If Obama is no threat to gun rights, then the Sioux were no threat to Custer either. And let's not forget his support for abortion and homosexual marriage. Is America crying out for an Obama administration or is that a cry of fear?
Fight the Fifth Column. Vote McCain/Palin.
You closet liberals and middle of the road "independents" will rue the day Obama is elected, if that happens. After our country plunges into the abyss of mediocrity as a socialist state, you will be sorry as hell you voted for a fruitloop like Obama.I challenge anyone to provide evidence of ONE thing he has ever accomplished, ONE real job he has ever held, or ONE thing he done to serve this great country of ours. Simply campaigning and holding elected office does not count for any one of those things in my opinion. We were warned about this puppet after the 2004 Democratic Party Convention. Even his running mate Biden stated he is not qualified to lead this country.Wake Up Fools!
Everytime I ask an Obama supporter to name one thing Obama did, they can't name anything.Obama has a radical past, hangs with domestic terrorists (Ayers) and racists (Rev. Wright). He is a radical minority that can read from a teleprompter; that's all.Obama has not authored any major legislation or reform; wants to increase taxes on corporations which will force them to lay off workers and pass on the costs to us; has gotten an incredible amount of pork in his short time in the Senate; is the recipient of the biggest media free ride in the history of the world. The media elites go after Palin for everything including what she wears and how she does her hair. But they leave the chosen Obama alone and even cover up for him. We're not even sure if he is eligible to be president with the phoney baloney birth certificate scandal that the media elite wouldn't cover.
Liberals re-elected a known crack head Marion Barry Mayor of DC. So why wouldn't they nominate another one for Prez. To their idiotic way of thinking O has everything it takes to run the most powerful country in the world.
Brian,You forgot one. Obama is also rabidly pro-abortion.
Huntin Nut:Those who don't remember history are doomed to repeat it!When Justice Ginzburg was nominated to SCOTUS, Republicans agreed to stay away from "hot button issues" such as abortion. They decided to confirm her on her judicial knowledge and experience. When Justices Roberts and Alito were confirmed, the Democrats decided that the "hot button issues" had to be considered. This included, but wasn't limited to, gun control and abortion. Now the Democrats have a majority in the Senate, and could have the President. I'm sure that the priciple of "Juri Dicensis" will probably be ignored in the future if they retain the Senate and also get the White House. This principle states that the court will not revisit decided issues. Government is a two-way street, only when Republicans have control. When Democrats have control, those in power shall determine the "Public Good". Say hello to the fairness doctrine, except of course, Main Stream Media, which is already fair.Gman:Why do liberals, such as yourself, feel that race must be interjected into a debate? No one, except you, has brought that non-issue up! We are faced with the possibility that a man will be elected President, who is not eligible for a Top Secret Clearance! He has a history of drug abuse, and he consorts with both terrorists and America haters. He wants handguns banned, and gun dealers within 5 radial miles of schools and parks eliminated. He wants to appoint judges who will put more criminals back on the street AND he wants to lose as many wars as possible so that we are again equal with the rest of the world. Please tell me Gman, is race your only argument for electing BHO? Is there no other reason?YooperJack
vote obama hahahahahahahahaha sike vote McCain
Democrat Governor Tim Kaine of Virginia is restoring voting rights for hardened criminals, so that they can vote for Obama. And criminals will love Obama/Biden gun control.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3L3kMuN8sjk
One thing's for certain, give the antiguns an inch and they will take a mile. They won't stop till all guns are illegal.
The post by john at 0651 hrs. is right on.The Washington DC city government ignores the US Supreme Court. So, the US House of Representatives passes a bill to force DC to comply. Then, Obama allies like Harry Reid in the US Senate won't allow the bill to come to a vote, thus protecting Obama and Biden from making more anti-gun votes. This is the crap you'll get with an Obama administration.
Huntin nut:So if Saddam Hussein and his psychopathic sons and murdering goons were still running Iraq and fertilizing the fields with the blood and bodies of innocent people, while sheltering and financing terrorists and seeking WMDs, you'd be all right with it. Good. We never should have gone to war. Gotcha. World is a better place with Hussein in charge than gone. You win. Reason triumphs.Gman;Would Obama be a change? Oh yeah. But there is such a thing as bad change. Both Carter and Clinton were, indeed, change. And we are still getting over the both of them. This isn't a game of RISK, boys. This is life and death. There is NO HISTORICAL REASON to think that Obama's 100% liberal agenda will do anything but put the country and the world with it in the tank. Doubt that? Look at the world before and after Carter, then before and after Clinton. Play the game again and look at the world before and after Reagan and Bush senior. If that is not enough to convince you, then I wonder what would. Vote Obama and enjoy your hunting while you can.
John is correct. Huntin Nut is wrong.Even the Field and Stream editor acknowledges in "The Sportsman's Choice: Field & Stream Interviews the Presidential Candidates" that "the recent victory for gun owners in the Supreme Court is not going to keep gun control advocates from trying to restrict the Second Amendment." see http://www.fieldandstream.com/article/Hunting/The-Sportsmans-Choice-Fiel... all Obama supporters: I am sorry that your candidate has a terrible record on the Second Amendment and does not trust gun owners, but you cannot erase what he has done or what he said he will do.
Huntin Nut,You are missing the point. While the Supreme Court ruled that the Second Amendment is an individual right, Obama and the rest of the liberals continue their anti-gun agenda. For example, in Washington DC, the local govt. will finally let you have a revolver, but not a semi-auto pistol. Their rationale is that the court did not explicitly say semi-auto pistols. A couple of weeks ago, a bill passed in the US House of Representative to force the DC government to let the law abiding citizens have semi-auto pistols; however, the liberal Democrats that control the Senate would not let the vote come to vote, because they didn't want Obama to have to make another anti-gun vote right before the election.Further, the anti-gun zealots still pursue huge taxes on guns and ammo; ammo bans; waiting periods; other restrictions; magazine capacity restrictions; bans on rifles and shotguns including those used for hunting. After all, the high court didn't mention these issues, since it wasn't germane to the case before them. The anti-gun zealots will still push for all kinds of restrictions on what you can have, how many you can have, where you can carry; how much you pay, etc. Certainly, we will be back at the Supreme Court. Given their narrow 5-4 ruling in the case discussed above, it is imperative to have conservative justices on the Court. Obama has promised to appoint anti-gun judges.Further, the next president will appoint hundreds of judges to the district courts and scores to the appellate courts. Since appeal to the Supreme Court is not guaranteed, the composition of these lower courts is critical too.Lastly, the next president will appoint hundreds of administrative bureaucrats that, in Obama's case, would support UN small arms controls.Make no mistake, an Obama administration would be dangerous for all gun owners from a legislative, judicial, and executive standpoint.Don't tread on me!
Huntin Nut,You sound like such a fool. I get it. Your one of the idiots who would vote for color rather than substance.
Well Gman I hope you and Hunting Nut are right. But somehow I think if Obama is elected he will enact the laws that he and Biden have supported as a state senator and US senator. Remember the dems who caused the whole financial mess even Bill Bubba admitted that on tv are in a clear majority in both the house and senate. So he will have the votes to abolish free speech and the 2nd amendment. Gman you need to go look at history just a little as the founding fathers were not looking at plowing or shooting redcoats. They were looking at starting a new country or being hung by the neck till dead for treason to the King. There may be blood on the hands of the repubs there is far more on the dems going back alt longer than eight.
Huntin Nut:Here in my part of KY a 50 lb. bag of corn is $11.50. I wish it were only $8.50.
Obama and his liberal allies in the Senate have expanded their idiotic definition of assault rifles so that it now includes almost every hunting rifle. Obama has also promised to appoint anti-gun judges to the Courts. Obama endorsed a 500% increase in the federal excise tax on firearms and ammunition. Obama voted to ban almost all rifle ammunition commonly used for hunting and sport shooting. Obama opposes Right to Carry laws. Obama voted to allow reckless lawsuits designed to bankrupt the firearms industry. With an Obama administration and the liberal Democrats in charge of Congress, you can be sure that they will try to take away your gun rights.Posted by: jm | October 04, 2008 at 07:49 PMNice talking point, but here is a newsflash! The supreme court has already ruled individual citizens have the right to gun ownership! That is the law PERIOD!!! Their is nothing Obama or any "liberal allies" can do.Secondly "if" he wanted to waste his time fighting the court's decision & the will of the people despite all the serious problems facing America, Obama will appoint NO MORE THAN 3 JUSTICES TO THE COURT.So please just stop. America is in deep trouble & we need to change direction for working folks, even working folks who hunt & fish. We have bills & mortages to! What you are spewing out ITS TIRESOME & OLD!
I didn't even mention the war in Iraq & Afghanistan? The chance of Iran getting a nuclear weapon? Please JUST SHUT UP WITH THE FEAR MONGERING about someone taking your guns or my guns!!!!! Its a republican DISTRACTION & FEAR TACTIC.Its not going to work in 2008.
Oh, Huntin Nut,It's a real shame that you can't see the real picture! The one statement that you need to remember is: "An unarmed people are subjects, an armed people are citizens!".You you all please just SHUT UP!!!! You said the EXACT SAME THINGS WHEN BILL CLINTON, GORE & JANET RENO TOOK OFFICE!!!! SAME DAMN THINGS!!!! The fear mongering is TIRESOME AND IT GETS OLD!!!Now let me explain something to you all. Most of you here probably don't have a pot to piss in and a window to throw it out off. You're probably regular working folk and some of you may be rich. Those of you who are rich I can see why you want 4 more years of GOP rule. George Bush & the GOP have nearly destroyed the economy and the WORKING CLASS HUNTING man can barely feed his family. Hunting bullets are 40 dollars a box, a 50 pound bag of corn is 8.50 a 50 lb bag of fertilizer is 15 freaking dollars!! Gas is 4 dollars a gallon & people are losing their homes. If Barack Obama WANTED to take your hunting weapons HE WOULDN'T HAVE THE DAMN TIME TO DO IT! Banning you from gun ownership & hunting IS THE LAST thing the next POTUS will have on his mind. With a 700 billion bail out, a health care crisis, 150k jobs lost in the month of September, people losing their homes & with the energy crisis THE LAST THING any president will have time for is petty BS!!!! The only people screaming about guns and abortions are the republican politicians who have screwed up the past 8 years and they want to distract you!
Neither Obama nor his supporters don't know jack about the Second Amendment.
Oh, Huntin Nut,It's a real shame that you can't see the real picture! The one statement that you need to remember is: "An unarmed people are subjects, an armed people are citizens!".To not be able to see where Obama is coming from and going to leads me to only one conclusion: LOVE IS BLIND.The next time there is a McCain/Obama debate, listen. McCain will give you ideas, thoughts and directions as to where he think's the nation should be going and what he thinks. Most of Obama's replies are directed to McCain that he doesn't have a clue!Obama stated he warned the people about Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae in 2002 and he voted against the war in Iraq. He wasn't even a US senator in 2002!Obama is correct about one thing though, CHANGE! There will be a tremendous change in our Gov't if he is elected. He even wants us to join NATO!Bubba
Huntin Nut, you just don't get it, do you? (assuming yer not trolling)The Second Amendment is not about hunting! It was always assumed that we had a large population of hunters who knew how to stalk and shoot. What made that good for the Republic was, that people who knew how to stalk and shoot game could also stalk and shoot government employees.THAT is what the Second Amendment is about.I don't advise that anybody actually do such a thing, of course, and I certainly don't intend to do that, myself
Here is the difference. The media is in the tank for Obama. They cover up his connections with terrorists like William Ayers and racists like Rev. Wright. When one tries to investigate these connections, one gets these bogus disinformation websites created by the obama-ists that lie for obama.McCain does not get a free ride from the media. The media used to like him because of his independent maverick streak, his friendliness towards the media, etc. Now, they don't like him because they want to get their inexperienced terrorist/racist loving obama in office.Posted by: jr | October 04, 2008 at 01:36 PMYou're just flat out stupid or you are simply brain washed. Do yourself a favor, quit digesting the bullsh*t Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity feed you daily. George W Bush has gotten a free media pass the past 8 years. Because of the media'a laziness & the rubber stamped conservative media like Fix News we're in an unnecessary war, thousands of troops killed & wounded & we are bogged down in a country spending 10 billion dollars a month that hade nothing to do with 911. If the press had done its job properly and not been duped & intididated by Bush & Cheney the Iraq war could have been avoided.
I think you boys should do what Obama has asked you to do.Ask Illinois sportsmen have their gun & hunting rights been threatened.I see huge bucks being killed on tv in Illinois all the time. Their gun & hunting rights don't look threatened to me.
Like I said before, if Obama gets elected there will be a run on grease, PVC pipe and shovels. Cause the only way you will be able to "keep" your guns is to grease them up good and bury them in sealed PVC pipe sections far away from your home. Start planning now folks cuz it's gonna happen if he gets in office.
To MMM:They did that to you for just a stock. Like a police state there or what.Speaking of police states, Obama's campaign is sending letters to tv and radio stations threatening them if they run NRA ads exposing Obama's record.WWW.GUNBANOBAMA.COM
I wouldn't support Obama and his extreme anti-second amendment views, even if he had a more conventional-sounding American name.Among gun bans and other nonsense, Obama endorsed a 500% increase in the federal excise tax on firearms and ammunition. Who wants to pay five times as much for a box of ammo.
Obama: pro-criminal; pro-terrorist; pro-racist; anti-Second Amendment.
I don't give a crap about barack hussein obama's name. Obama and the rest of the Democrats will crap all over the Second Amendment--that's what I have against him. Don't tread on me!Also, Obama and the Democrats are pro-criminal. In order to help Obama, Democrat Governor Kaine of Virginia is restoring the voting rights of felons. http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2008/oct/03/kaine-restores-voting-ri...
Whatever Gman. You want The Chicago Political Machine to run this country?! I used to commute to Chi town from Toledo as a Project Superintendant and I got pulled over for speeding as i was late getting to the Jobsite. Anyways, I had the stock from my M1A in the back seat, because I was going to re-sand and oil it at my hotel room during the week. That cop saw it, that plain old wood stock, I'm surprised he even new what it was, He pulled out his pistol and snatched me out of my company car, called for backup, hell I felt like I was going to get get shot. I tried to explain why I had it but they wouldn't listen. They tore apart my whole car looking for the rest of it. During this time they were pushing me, cuffed, up against my new company car demanding to know were it was. They called my main offices and almost got me fired. That city makes me want to puke! It took me 2 weeks to get that stock back. So you think what you want. I wonder if there are any bloggers here that live in the windy city. The NRA is the main body standing between us and them. W/O them we would have a hell of alot less right's. Think of them as a necessary evil.
Oh. OK. Now I think I get it.It's OK for McCain and his surrogates to lie about Obama and steer searches because the media doesn't like McCain. And McCain didn't know Ayers, but he did benefit from crooked bankers like Keating, and that's OK, because Keating used a briefcase instead of a bomb as a weapon. But Obama is a Negro with a funny name, so no matter what he does, he will be a closet Muslim/socialist/racist who is going to destroy the country.I musta been sick the day they went over that.
Now, they don't like him because they want to get their inexperienced terrorist/racist loving obama in office.
The article goes on to say McCain's campaign has bid on more search terms:"Overall, the McCain campaign has been more aggressive in bidding on Google search terms. In August, McCain's site managed 21.6 million sponsored search-link impressions (the number of times users click on a particular sponsored link), compared with less than 1 million for Obama's site, according to Nielson Online, another Internet monitoring firm."So McCain was manipulating Google searches at a 21-to-1 ratio over Obama. So I don't see the point jr is trying to make about Obama.
Obama is now manipulating your Google searches. Wake up America. Obama will steal your money, your guns, your privacy, your freedom.http://news.yahoo.com/s/usnews/20080918/ts_usnews/obamasgoogleoffensiveagainstrumors
OK fellas this is just the tip of the iceberg. I agree with eyeball on the comment that if he'll do this as a candidate, just imagine what he'll do as President. The future of freedom in this country is at stake here, folks, and we need to get the word out. We have only one month left until Obama and his Chicago goons use the time honored practice of stuffing the ballot box in order to win the election.
One liberal blowhard in favor of Obama is grateful to know that his recent craving for sauerbraten can be chalked up to his support of a "hitler type" instead of the cold weather and pictures of Oktoberfest on the news. But what is the choice our founding fathers faced that we face? Plowing or shooting British soldiers? That's really my choice? I'll have to think about that.
An Obama administration with Sens. Schumer, Durbin, Kennedy and Feinstein in the majority is quite scary. They have expanded their ridiculous definition of assault rifles to include an incredible number of hunting rifles, many of which I have used to take deer.
The push to silence your opponents comments is as old as Cain and Abel. Instead of cutting off their heads they just cut of your ability to put your message out. The Wash Poo will not accept ads from any firearms supporting orginization and has a long history of supporting a total gun ban. The thing is Facsism is alive and well practiced strongly by the Democratic Party and supported by the NEA, Wall street and the American Library Assoc.Yet what kills me is as voters we support these people and then wonder why our rights are disapppearing. You tube even got in the act when it started removing videos showing how the DEms with the aid of Fannie and Freddie got us into this financial meltdown. Go check out "Burning Down the House" or the other posts about the economic mess. There was a thing the other day where in Cal. a teacher recruited a bunch of kids in a local school to sing a song about Obama and hope. Supposedly imprompto but it was staged with a dem production crew on hand to film it. Now if that is shades of the Hitler youth or Castro or Mao I don't know what else you can say to point out how dangerous this guy is. He is a hitler type who will destroy the country. If he gets elected many of us may face the same choice our FOUNDING FATHERS faced.
It will be interesting to see how many of the Liberal blowhards who appear on this site will defend NObama Hussein now. Watch and see how fast the environmental Nazis reinstate the ban on offshore drilling if they win the election. Next in line will be to install bleeding heart judges on the Supreme Court to reinterpret the recent ruling on the 2nd ammendment. For gun owners to think otherwise is sheer folly !Dont forget conservative talk radio has to go also and last but not least THIS FORUM.!
John Hardin:When I said, 'A wonder that the mainstream media has left this alone' about Obama's attempt to shut down the NRA ads, it was because the first amendment is the one thing the media universally bands together to protect. For example, when an effort was made to put obscenity warnings on the package of some filthy mouthed rapper's work some years back, to listen to the press you would have thought that the USA was becoming the USSR. The press has always watched its own back, and its own privileges, first. Now, the press is deciding to keep mum, even though they are helping elect a man who may one day muzzle them, too.Now I can say I've seen everything. I didn't know they were that far in the tank for Obama. They've lost their minds. I bow, John.
“As nightfall does not come at once, neither does oppression. In both instances, there's a twilight where everything remains seemingly unchanged, and it is in such twilight that we must be aware of change in the air, however slight, lest we become unwitting victims of the darkness.”-Supreme Court Justice William O. Douglas“Ideas are more powerful than guns. We would not let our enemies have guns, why should we let them have ideas.”-Joseph Stalin“People only see what they are prepared to see.”-Ralph Waldo Emerson“Our job is to give people not what they want, but what we decide they ought to have.”-Richard Salant, former President of CBS News
I live in Illinois and can tell you the Chicago machine's position on private ownership of guns is zero tolerance. Obama is a product of that machine and has toed the Illinois Democrat party line on banning private ownership of guns, period. For him to come out now as supporting any gun rights at all is BS. I get to read Chicago Mayor Richard Daley's anti-gun rants all the time, at least he is honest about his position.
And another thing: Factcheck trusts Kennedy's explanation that the ammunition be 'marketed or designed' to be armor piercing. OK, makes sense, good enough for me. "Tough enough for a moose, gentle enough on a flimsy vest"
Bob: based on a reading of the Kennedy amendment that Obama voted for, ammunition that can pierce the minimum standard for law enforcement body armor would be classified as 'armor piercing'. That's 30-30ville.
This is why we should always take anything a liberal has to say with a grain of salt. Speaking with a forked tongue is a liberal pastime. If we are united toward a secure, vibrant, world-leading nation...vote conservative. As a side note: did anyone hear the new grumblings from the military possibly ditching the M4? Here's a link to follow. http://military.einnews.com/news/m4-carbineI can't get in because I don't have a user ID, but it seems at least on it's face that we're finally getting to get rid of that mouse gun.
I'm curious Mr. Petzal, do you still believe (as you did in 1994) that the American public in general, and the gun-owning public specifically, would be better off without my AR-15?How about my Garand? (Or if I buff and oil the Garand's walnut stock real purty, does that render it no longer a "hardcore military arm"?) http://waronguns.blogspot.com/2007/02/writer-of-his-stature.htmlHow many types of guns are you willing to throw from the sleigh to keep Ruger No.1's and Perazzi doubles legal? Where do you draw the line?
eyeball sez:> A wonder that the mainstream media has left this alone. No, it's not a wonder at all.http://www.pajamasmedia.com/instapundit/archives2/025096.php
I live in PA - Obama seemed like a nice guys at one time even if I didnt agree - now he makes me sick.Obamas voting history is as anti-gun as can be. He doesnt renounce it either. His campaign in is based primarily on hiding the truth about himself.
I see on your blog roll "say uncle". I saw this when it came out plus the cease and desist letters from Obama campaign to PA radio stations for running the ads.If your are the gun nut you shold have been more educated on the truth of Obama's system for shutting down dangerous dissent.Stanley Kurz goes checking out the papers of the Annerberg Challenge. The radio interview was shouted down by Obama supporters. The Missouri goon squads that prosecutors and sheriffs implied prosecution under libel laws for ads.The Governor of Missouri gave a statement of the police state tactics.
That first link should be tohttp://www.snowflakesinhell.com/2008/09/23/more-on-factcheckorgs-bad-fact-checking/I accidentally linked to the comments section instead of the article, though they are on the same page.
Bob: You should do some more looking. The NRA advertisements are NOT, as a point in fact, misleading. They are based on Obama's factual actions and statements.More on thathttp://www.snowflakesinhell.com/2008/09/23/more-on-factcheckorgs-bad-fact-checking/#commentshttp://volokh.com/posts/1222201928.shtmlhttp://www.saysuncle.com/archives/2008/09/24/how-many-facts-could-factcheck-check-if-factcheck-could-check-facts/
I'm torn on this one. I strongly believe in the right of free speach. However, I think misleading ads do a huge disservice to the voting public. After seeing the NRA ad, I found it hugely misleading and cements why, despite being a fervent gun-owner, I will not donate any money to the NRA.Can't we get a pro-gun lobby that doesn't resort to half-truths or worse, outright lies?
You're not wrong, Dave. Here is the link to the NRA's own site that says the same thing.http://www.nraila.org/GrassrootsAlerts/read.aspxA wonder that the mainstream media has left this alone. If this is the way Obama behaves as a candidate, imagine what he'll do as president. You guys who are always writing, "I'm a lifelong hunter and shooter, and I'm voting Obama" have to understand that this is NOT just about guns.Guns are power. Guns mean that you can enforce the law in your own home, no need for lawyers, judges, or congressional oversight complete with blue ribbon panels, when a bad guy breaks down your door. Guns mean that the private citizen has the ability to take direct, independent-of-the-government action when a hurricane knocks the power out and mobs of looters run the streets. This amount of power in the hands of private citizens is impossible for liberals in general to stomach. Obama is just part of the herd there. This isn't about criminals and it never has been. What gun law ever disarmed a single criminal? Obama doesn't want US to have guns because he doesn't trust US with them. What else doesn't he trust law abiding citizens with? Obama voters, please tell me why I'm wrong, and why Obama's agenda is a good thing in your opinion.
How does Obama think he can use the first amendament to stop the NRA? The first is what gives them the right to put whatever ads they want!!!Nate
Obama and his goon squad have been doing this sort of thing for weeks. In Missouri they are filing bogus charges with the State Police to silence critics, while ACORN is stuffing ballot boxes in Ohio. Please check out DonkeySlap.com one of the very first bloggers to push for Sarah Palin. If he is elected the 2nd Amendment is gone and I'm not sure the 1st will survive 4 years.
The information is accurate. They've also been threatening people at radio stations and other strong-arm tactics. If Obama gets in, the Fairness Doctrine is coming and you can say bye to the pro-gun blogosphere and talk radio.
Obama is clearly afraid of the NRA.He would not have resorted to this action if that was not the case.
One truly has to wonder; if Obama is taking this action to attempt to silence the basically irrepressable NRA what is he doing to other groups who bring up valid points against him but haven't the resources to fight his attacks? What else is he covering up, lying about?Have other groups been surpressed or censored by this megalomanic but incompetent politician??SA
I'm very disappointed with the Washington Post's "fact check" here, because they got it wrong. The NRA says Obama supports "a ban on shotguns and rifles most of us use for hunting." WaPo purports to dismiss that as inaccurate by writing that it what Obama wants is a renewal of the assault weapons ban and that the claim "refers to semiautomatic rifles and pistols covered by the assault weapons ban, which expired in March 2004."Putting aside the fact that an AK has hunting utility, there's a plain error in WaPo's "fact check," which, at least in part, purports to invalidate the NRA's claim because it includes "shotguns" where the assault weapons ban only affected "semiautomatic rifles and pistols." In fact, the ban also made illegal semiautomatic shotguns with a pistol grip, a product that Remington is currently marketing to hunters, as you can see at the link below.http://www.remington.com/products/firearms/shotguns/model_11-87/model_11-87_sportsman_ShurShot_synthetic_turkey.asp
This is why you should join us in the rest of the pro-gun blogosphere - we had the actual letters from Obama's campaign last week.http://www.thebitchgirls.us/?p=9252http://www.snowflakesinhell.com/2008/09/25/obama-silencing-voice-of-gun-owners/And, if you prefer, there's also the NRA release which also has original documents:http://www.nrapvf.org/news/Read.aspx?ID=11588&T=1So I don't know whose accuracy is being questioned, NRA, others with the actual letters, or Newsmax, but it should probably be clarified.
