Oh, and about the garden pest thing- grow a lot of decoy lettuce and spinach along the outside rows, the deer love it! Besides, Pappy always said there was no better tasting deer than the deer that ate in your garden all summer!

EricAlder-Individuals other than hunters can certainly understand how something can be "too cute" and "both pleasure and nuisance". We just find ways of dealing with animals that don't involve killing them.

If you say you hunt because you like hunting, I disagree with your choice but respect your honesty. If you say you hunt to protect yourself, you're lying or stupid. There are plenty of non-lethal ways to keep deer away from your property- fences and predator urine (among other deterrents) come to mind first. If you don't mind them around but don't want them to eat your garden, follow Ranger2's advice and plant some decoy vegetables to keep you and the deer happy.

Beautiful pics...however, just goes to show how the habitat for these animals is shrinking. Just yesterday 4 fawns were killed as we bush hogged our 3 acres of hayfield...this has never happened before. The white tails here are even brash enough to bed in the swales along the road...Maybe time for doe only season guys.

If anyone does not like wildlife move back to the concrete jungle. Hunting controls populations. If not legal, change the law. I have a recipe for home-made deer repellent if anyone wants it. It works but you can't put it in your garden while you are in a high rise office building.

Animals being 'too cute' is part of the dichotomy of being a hunter, something anti-hunters cannot fathom. It's not an either/or choice; animals are both pleasure and nuisance.

As true lovers of wildlife, hunters appreciate the inherant beauty found in Nature. But we also understand the realities of disease, competition for food, habitat encroachment and death.

Nature is complex, and managing our natural resources is not just making Yes-or-No decisions. It takes a balanced approach of logic and compassion to work.

That is awesome, I saw a doe nursing a fawn on my way home the other day. The grass in the Peoples republic is nice and gree, wish I could say the same of the prarie grass in easern CO. Here's hoping for more Mulies all over the state!

I have several in my yard, you have to train them when their young to not eat the plants.

Cute kittens grow up to be unwanted cats and puppies grow up to be bothersome dogs. If you are a hunter, those cuddly fawns grow up to become the focus of a hunt. Whatever your personal thoughts may be, the problem of animals encroaching upon man's claimed territory (or vice versa) is age old.

These babies are the most adorable thing ever! I signed in just to say that. I love camping, canoeing and hiking but I have never hunted and would never hunt. I wish we had more wolves and pumas as natural predators; I don't want those in my backyard, but maybe that would limit deer/predators to the woods.

I love the little fawn lying down and the cat pics. I have two large Newfoundland dogs (often outside), so I doubt I will ever be lucky enough as this man to have such beauty in the backyard!
