Ken Perrotte is a military veteran and an award-winning outdoors communicator who started working with Field & Stream in 2020. A career communication and strategic-planning professional, his work covering the outdoors spans nearly 25 years, touching all genres and topics in the hunting, fishing ,and conservation world. 

 

Highlights

  • A hunter and angler since boyhood, Perrotte has hunted big and small game in 21 states, Canada, and Mexico, plus Africa, South America, and New Zealand. He’s fished in 22 states, Canada, Ireland, and New Zealand. 
  • Loves to hunt whitetail deer and wild turkeys are favorites, and he has notched a turkey Royal Slam.     
  • Perrotte is routinely called upon to serve as a judge in outdoors writing and photography contests.  

Experience

During his military years—spanning both active duty and federal civilian service—Perrotte served in multiple roles with the Air Force, Army, and Department of Defense and got to visit nearly 20 countries. He retired from the DoD in 2013, after more than 34 years of combined service and has worked full time in outdoor communications since.
Perrotte is the 2021-2022 President of the Association of Great Lakes Outdoors Writers. He also belongs to the Professional Outdoor Media Association and the Southeastern Outdoors Press Association (SEOPA), where he served three terms on the Board of Directors and was that association’s Business and Finance Committee Chairman for 8 years.
He is president of Kmunicate Worldwide LLC and manages/provides content for Outdoors Rambler, a site covering the waterfront in terms of hunting, fishing, wild game cooking and travel. The site has won first place in the SEOPA Website Excellence Award competition for four consecutive years.

Education

Perrotte was the Distinguished Honor Graduate at his initial training with the Defense Information School and later set the course record for completion of the self-paced Newspaper Editors Course. He is also a graduate of the military’s Senior Public Affairs Officer course and OPM’s Executive Development Course.
Perrotte earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the Regis College, Colorado, majoring in management with a journalism minor. He holds a Master of Arts in Communication degree from the University of Dayton, where he also served as an adjunct professor, teaching an undergraduate interviewing course.
