Date night in the Brantley house usually starts around 10 a.m., when they trailer the johnboat to Kentucky Lake. There’s very little sweet-talk on these outings. Mostly, it’s smack talk, like when Michelle had a rare miss on a recent trip. “Get that one?” Will said, with an ear-to-ear grin. Sometime after lunch that afternoon, when the second good fish pulled off Will’s line, she clipped back, “Who’s job was it to sharpen those points?” Will had nothing to say. He just opened an old tackle box and grabbed a file.
