The picture of a raccoon riding a gator in a Florida swamp prompted, as I hoped it would, an outpouring of creativity. Either that or Field Notes readers will do anything for a bag of Berkley Havoc and Gulp baits. Feeling slightly overwhelmed by the number of entries, I enlisted F&S summer intern Adrienne Donica to help with the judging. We put our heads together and came up with the following short list of finalists.

“The ad said ‘authentic swamp tours,’ but he just assumed it was on an airboat.” —Cbass123

There were a few different entries with plays on the Crocs footwear theme, and we had to go with, __“Please tell him nobody has worn Crocs since 2010” —Cajun Country

Lots of readers speculated on the messy ending of the raccoon’s ride. Our favorite of those was “The new ferry service to the other side of the swamp is very convenient for daily commuters, but it costs you an arm and a leg.” —stick500

The two we liked best were:
“Hold my crawfish and watch this!” from VAhunter540, and

“The raccoon thought this was what ‘Taking the A train’ meant,” from Sgtsly

And the winner is: Sgtsly.

Thanks to everyone who entered.
