Video: “Bear! Bear! You’re Breaking My Kayak. Why Are You Doing That?”

Poor Mary Maley. First a bear ate her sea kayak, then the hilarious video she posted of the encounter went viral. Now, nearly the whole world has heard her threatening, begging, and pleading as a bear tears up her boat.

According to CBS News, Maley was on a 107-mile solo kayak trip from Ketchikan to Petersberg, Alaska, and had stopped at a forest service public-use cabin in Berg Bay. There, the bear emerged from the nearby woods and spent 20 minutes chewing on her kayak. After the bear left, Maley swam out the sailboat Caledonia, seen anchored in the video, and asked for a ride to Wrangell so she could repair her craft, which was her only means of transportation.
