The Discovery Channel recently announced it had won a bidding war to bring you “Sarah Palin’s Alaska,” a documentary/reality show “about the remarkable Governor Palin and her home state of Alaska.” And almost immediately afterward, the political left and right have drawn battle lines over the show and begun firing salvos. Now there’s a shocker.

To put it in perspective, Tom Goodman of the San Francisco Chronicle, who calls the decision to spotlight such a polarizing figure a “dreadful if calculated mistake by Discovery” asks Republicans to imagine Discovery announcing “Nancy Pelosi’s San Francisco.” In the midst of it all, the Defenders of Wildlife has begun an online petition in opposition to the show and urged its members to contact the network in protest–and U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance has responded in Palin’s defense.

From Ammoland.com:

The U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance (USSA) is one of numerous groups that are condemning the latest public relations smear campaign by the animal rights group Defenders of Wildlife targeting former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin….

“Once again, Defender’s of Wildlife have chosen to engage in misleading emotional appeals in order to tarnish the reputation of Gov. Palin,” said Bud Pidgeon, USSA president and CEO.
