An outbreak of the disease that killed a third of Europe’s population in the Middle Ages has forced officials to close the campground at Utah’s Natural Bridges National Monument. Noting that the closure is a conservative step, a U.S. Public Health Service spokesman said, “We just like to be sure when it comes to plague.” The area could reopen as early as next week for adventurous campers who don’t mind sleeping where Black Death has just been.
