While politicians and activists argue over one group of Mexican immigrants, scientist and environmentalists are sparring over another: the jaguar. Researchers want to capture and radio-collar one of the few cats known to live in the southwestern US to learn the species’ movements, particularly routes used to cross the border. Some environmental groups, however, point to two recent attempts to tag jaguars that resulted in a pair of dead cats.
