During an evening lightning storm earlier this month in Texas, Martha Hughes of East Decatur heard a thumping on her roof and no doubt thought, Boy, it’s raining hard out there. The next morning, she woke up to find 26 common mergansers—all charred and dead–scattered around her house and yard. Apparently, the whole flock was struck down by lightning. Here’s the whole story.
