Rod Nutter, 50, took this very wide, very tall, and typical 8 point in Athens County. He shot the buck on December 2, 2006 in an area he calls a “real desirable location.” He was watching seven bucks feeding when this one approached, dwarfing a 4 1/2 year old 9 point that Rod knew well. “I was real tickled,” Rod says. And he had good reason: the deer netted 166 2/8. Field & Stream Online Editors

“This deer is 6 1/2 years old,” Nutter says. “He was great big and thick-necked, and it was a great hunt.” He shot the deer just before noon at about 35 yards, proving to his friend Randy that deer really do move around midday (especially when the rut is on). He took the buck on November 9th, and it grossed an a-typical 151 4/8. Field & Stream Online Editors

Mike Rex with a typical buck he shot November 4, 2004. A doe walked by, he says, followed by a 2 1/2 year old 8 point with his nose to ground.
