How important is the true ballistic range in a rangefinder? I want to purchase a new one and I am curious if it is needed. I do hunt a lot of ridges and ravines but I have a flat shooting bow also.

Alright, I got my question answered. If you are interested in a rangefinder be aware that they are making them now for bowhunting OR gun hunting. Bowhunting ones range to 150 yrds and gun hunting go up to and beyond. However, the leopould RX-II has both modes. Excellent!!!

I like my Nikon Archers Choice. Not sure how important the ID technology is but being my first rangefinder, I've been happy with it.

I was told by a salesman at cabelas that the only difference will be a yard, maybe two. You can do the math with some simple geometry. If you know how high your stand is, and how far your target is, you can figure balistic range.
