Heck BigO I thought you were talking about the Florida/Arkansas game today. Let me be the first to say Arkansas got screwed. My beloved Buckeyes fell today. Oh well.

Hey, congrats on the doe. Nothing better than meat in the freezer. I just finished caping my son's 8 point he shot and will butcher it tomorrow. Check out the link.

The kid sits behind a clump of grass wearing exactly what you see in the picture. No camo. No hat. Solid green pullover he wears to school everyday and has 5 bucks walk up to him. He shot the biggest.

I'm gonna hide a confession in your blog here. I put the BIG WHIFFER on a turkey yesterday. Shame on me. I was sitting next to a log when she walks up with a flock following. She saw me pull my bow back and I let it fly. The arrow stuck dead center a sapling next to the bird. Phooey.

My muzzleloader missfired twice on a 150 class 10 pointer. Somehow I felt a little relieved 'cause that would have meant no bowhunting the rut here in KS. Did shoot a button buck for meat. So far have taken one mature old doe with the bow. She won't eat anymore flowers and schrubs around my friend's house.

You whacked a cat at 15 feet with a .300 Win? Gosh BigO was there even any hair left on the darn thing? lol Congrats big guy.

I am still scoreless except for a couple very unlucky squirrels. Not for lack of game. I've been giving a very nice 125ish buck a free pass the last 3 days. Just tonight I had 4 doe milling around my stand until after dark. I threw a quiver full of arrows at them trying to scare them away and they just stood there wondering why it was raining arrows.

Steve182 was out not to long ago. What a good guy but unfortunatly the deer were uncooperative. The rut is completely turned on here now. Deer everywhere, all day long. It's a good thing.

I caught a glimpse of a whopper tonight...Hopefully the story doesn't end there.

Steve,

The whereabouts of the bedded buck are unknown. I have been seeing a very similar buck everyday for the past 3-4 days but it's a solid 8 point. Not a 9. I caught a glimspe of a really nice buck yesterday. Time will tell.

Check this thread tonight. I have a good story from this mornings hunt but have to run right now.

Had a clean miss tonight. Decided to give my spot a rest and try an obscure longshot of a spot where i'd have to stalk up on bedded deer. Got w'in 5 yds of a decent 6pt. before i could even see him. He thought i couldn't. I couldn't thread an arrow through the low cover around his bed, so i took another step hoping he'd stand. He leapt and flew outta' there in one motion. Surprisingly when i broke through the cattails expecting to see him running off, he was standing there on the marsh. I was downwind of him. I was unsure of the yardage and i shot right over his back with my 25 yd pin! I got w/in shooting range a few more times before he totally vacated the area but never got another shot. It was exciting, different and disappointing, but at least he's not wounded. I was hoping for a better buck anyway, but because of the circumstances of this hunt i decided to take him. Alas, it was not meant to be. Never a dull moment though. Have been seeing a little more deer activity at my other spots.

I popped off a large feral hog with my friend's 270. He put a 9mm into the head when we got up to it. After we loaded it into the truck, it got up and jumped out! 5 more shots to the head took care of that. Haven't had a hog jump out of the truck bed like that before.

+3 Good Comment? | | Report
from buckhunter wrote 2 years 26 weeks ago

Well I finally decided to release an arrow tonight. BigO inspired me to finish a hunt rather than just go home. After a long stalk on a buck I was probably passing up anyway I found myself within 15 yards of two doe and close to the truck. Not a good combination for a guy who didn't eat breakfast that morning. My Bear Montana Longbow did the trick and double lunged the little girl in short order. The shot and release were so quiet the second doe was clueless and remained nibbling on a bush but Ohio law requires a tag on your first deer before shooting the second. A quick kill and short drag. The best of both worlds.

I know. Not nearly as good as a bobcat but hey, I live in Ohio.
