In about 10 days, I’ll be starting my new gig as a hunting guide in Alaska! It’s the beginning of a rigorous process to being a licensed guide that will take me 3-5 years to achieve. I’ll be starting at the bottom of the ranks as a wrangler and packer. It’s gonna be one of the hardest things I’ve ever done, but I am honestly just blessed with the opportunity because they are very hard to come by.

As many of you know, I have been looking to expand upon my adventures in the wild and grow closer to the earth over the past year by entering the hunting scene. For me, it’s always about leveling up each year. I ask myself “what are you going to do this year that you didn’t do last year?” It’s all about pushing the needle forward to make sure when I’m old and gray that I can look back on my life with pride. Pushing my body and mind as much as possible. A few months ago I was racking my brain for what that looked like for me this year, and all of a sudden it clicked! Guiding hunts is going the be the best of both worlds for me as someone who loves to capture wildlife with my camera and also be a part of harvesting animals. It’s kind of a cheat code to getting paid to do what I love, because as we all know photography doesn’t pay very well these days. Wildlife photographers are a dime a dozen. There are thousands of amazing ones out there. This is how I am going separate from the pack and bring something new to the table. I’ll have the unique over the shoulder perspective of countless big game hunts over the years and you guys are gonna get a front row seat!

Our outfit does everything does everything on horseback, which is gonna be pretty wild for me considering I’ve been on a horse 4 times in my life. I also have never butchered a large animal in the field, so to say I’m nervous is an understatement. I’ve got so much to learn, and am going to be well outside my comfort zone for the foreseeable future. That’s the only way to grow though! I couldn’t be more stoked to take on this new challenging adventure, and I’m excited to take you all along for the ride!

A Memory of a Lifetime — made in the hard pines of Georgia.
“What seemed like a normal day, quickly turned into a hunt we will remember for the rest of our days. Cody and I pulled up to the property way before day break, patiently waiting for a gobble. A group of crows eventually stirred a response in the distance, and we crept their way. We made it to a patch of tall grass just in time. They flew down at 40 yards, and Cody took the shot. As we walk over to get him, we discovered he had two leg bands. One band offered a $100 reward, while the other revealed the bird’s origin 11 miles away. Reporting the kill to the Department of Natural Resources, we were amazed by his journey. This hunt reminded us to cherish the surprises nature brings and appreciate each hunt just as we did this one.”
