Catfish are a highly refined species, with a sophisticated palate. To catch a mess of classy cats—or just some regular ones—raid the pantry and whip up this ultra-rotten stink-bait recipe.
2 cups cornmeal
2 cups flour
1 tin of anchovies
1 hot dog
2 tablespoons of chicken-liver juice
Water, as needed
1. In a large mixing bowl, combine cornmeal and flour.
2. Then, using a food processor or blender, combine the hot dog and anchovies (including the juices) and puree.
3. Add the anchovy-and-hot-dog puree to the mixing bowl and whisk together with the flour and cornmeal.
4. Add chicken-liver juice and continue to mix. Add water as needed until the mixture has the consistency of soft clay.
Mold the bait onto a #4 or #6 Magic Dough Bait Spring Hook. Fish off the bottom using a slip-sinker rig in small ponds, river eddies, or anywhere else with channel cats.
