There’s a whole generation of flyfishermen who think matching the hatch is just an everyday phrase, which it is, but first it was a book: Matching the Hatch by Ernest Schwiebert (221 pp.; 1990 reprint of 1955 first edition. Illustrated. Published by Stoeger Publishing, Dept. FS, 5 Mansard Ct., Wayne, NJ 07470. Softcover, $11.95). Some books are revolutionary, and this one radically changed flyfishing for trout. It covers basic fly hatches from Maine to California, and it’s still a good place to start.
