Women got short shrift in most fishing books published before the 1970s, but now there’s a slew of new books for females. The best, hands down, is Reel Women by Lyla Foggia (304 pp.; 1995. Illustrated. Published by Beyond Words Publishing, Dept. FS, 20827 NW Cornell Rd., Hillsboro, OR 97124-9808). Most of the new female-oriented books deal only with flyfishing, but I’ll bet more women are bass fishing than are chasing trout. Foggia-to her undying credit-includes profiles of female anglers known for everything from trout to bass to offshore big-game.
