I never met a 7×42 binocular I didn’t like, and Brunton’s roof-prism Eterna 7×42 is no exception. Despite the increasing popularity of higher magnifications, 7X is still, in my estimation, the most useful all-around magnification. And when combined with 42mm objective lenses, it yields 6mm exit pupils (42mm/7x=6mm), which are ideal for dawn and dusk hunting-especially if the binocular has fully multicoated optics, as is true of the 7X Eterna. Desirable features include: nitrogen-purged waterproof construction; an aluminum body; heavy rubber armoring with integral lens covers; a picture-window 416-foot field of view at 1,000 yards; and an extra-long 20mm eye relief for eyeglass-wearers. A comparable Brunton Eterna 10×42 is also available.
