Outdoor Skills - Hunting Q&A

Q: During deer season, I shot a doe in the leg with my muzzleloader and she ran off. I followed her all day but was unable to find her, and I eventually had to give up. Will she be able to live out her normal life span? -John Augustine, New York, N.Y.

A: Deer can move surprisingly well on three legs, but not well enough to keep clear of coyotes. If they are in the neighborhood, I think they will pull her down pretty quickly. In the absence of predators, however, I'd expect her to live out her life like any other deer.
