Best known for its range-finding riflescopes, Shepherd Enterprises is now offering a line of fully waterproof, P-coated roof-prism binoculars. These include 8×42, 10×42 and 12×50 models, of which we tested the 10×42. Though perhaps a bit too expensive, this glass rated well in all categories. I like it because the resolution (4.4 SOA) is better than it needs to be, it fits my hands perfectly and it has old-fashioned rubber eyecups. Regarding the eyecups, the test panel was deeply divided. Mike Parsons liked them, Jim Zumbo said they were ‘awful’ and Jack Atcheson feared they would be hard to replace if they wore out. (Great minds don’t always agree, which is why we had a panel.)
