Reader Tip: Use Corn to Deodorize Your Kicks
Get the stink out of your boots with a cheap bag of corn.

Some of the best hunting and fishing tips that appear in Field & Stream each month don’t come from the editors or writers—they come from you, our readers. Here’s one for getting the stink out of boots.
New boots can smell like tires or leather goods, and old boots can smell just plain bad, none of which you want in the woods. To get rid of the scent, buy a sack of corn—a 50-pound bag usually goes for about $5—and bury your boots in it. After a few days they’ll be virtually odorless. —Thomas Shipshock, via fieldandstream.com
