Here on Field Notes we always strive to keep you up to date on the latest news and issues in the outdoor world, and I think we can all agree that one of the most important issues we as a demographic face, the hugely important problem that some of the industry’s finest minds have long pondered, is how to attract more blonde pop starlets to the sport of fishing. Habitat restoration and protection, recruitment of new anglers, the fight for continued public angling access; it’s all for naught if we can’t find a way to lure the Ke$has, the Pinks, and the Katy Perries (we’ll take bottle blondes, we’re not picky) of the world to our sport.
Last year we reported on the first major step in reaching that goal when Lady GaGa went fishing. Now we’re happy to report a second blond pop starlet (albeit one in sort of a mid-career slump) has joined the cause. From this story in the UK Daily Mail:
She’s been described as being ‘out to lunch’ a few times in her career – but now Britney Spears has genuinely ‘gone fishing’. The 29-year-old Toxic singer and boyfriend Jason Trawick had taken her entire family out fishing in her home state Louisiana.
_Britney’s mother and father, her sister Jamie Lynn and her daughter joined Britney, her two sons Sean, five, and Jayden, four, and Jason at a lake near the family home in Kentwood. The star is getting in some quality time with family before she hits the promotional trail for her new single Hold It Against Me and forthcoming album Femme Fatale. Britney and family spent a day hoping to hook local fresh water fish including largemouthed bass, redfish, catfish, crappie, ladyfish and bluegill.
We’re making progress, folks. It may not be in our lifetimes, but perhaps our children or our children’s children will someday watch some future blonde pop starlet hoist a bass out a livewell as part of her Grammy Awards performance. We can only dream…
