National Wild Turkey Federation Gets Into Quail Conservation

The National Wild Turkey Federation is getting ready to throw its beard into the quail conservation ring.

From this story on newsok.com:

The National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) was a leader in helping restore the wild turkey population in Oklahoma and across the United States. Now, the wildlife conservation group wants to help bring back the bobwhite quail. The NWTF is currently attempting to organize upland game bird chapters in Oklahoma and other states. A NWTF upland game bird chapter already has formed in Hobart and an organizational meeting is scheduled Tuesday in Moore to test the waters for another.

"In truth, the best thing to help quail is to help turkeys," said Brent Lawrence, director of public relations for the NWTF. "When you improve turkey habitat that helps quail as well. When you are helping turkeys, you are helping quail." Donnie Buckland, director of the upland game bird program for the NWTF, said the organization is not trying to compete against other wildlife conservation groups like Quail Forever or convert its members.
