This Monday a central Missouri deer hunter died after falling into a massive sinkhole.
According to this report from St. Louis Channel 4 KMOV, Curtis Powelson, 31, was archery hunting Monday night and called his wife to let her know he had just shot a deer and was going to track it. When he didn’t return home she called the sheriff and reported him missing. Police and firefighters searched the woods and found Powelson’s body around 3 a.m. Tuesday morning at the bottom of a 65- to 70-foot deep sinkhole.
Recent heavy rains in the region likely caused the sinkhole to open. Powelson’s death was ruled accidental.
