Someone kept vandalizing Matt Strom’s bike in the rack as the math instructor taught classes at Iowa Lakes Community College in Estherville, Iowa. Day after day the vandal attacked the bike’s tires, seat, taillight, and headlight in broad daylight.

Assuming it was a student, Strom reported the vandalism to the police, but it was one of his colleagues who solved the mystery, photographing the squirrel that gnawed on Strom’s bike day after day.

Cindy Rarrat of Sioux City Animal Control suggested Lakes College could live-trap the squirrel, but the trick would be to find a bait that would appeal only to the problem squirrel. “I don’t know what you’d bait that trap with … a rubber ball?” Rarrat told the Sioux City Journal.
