The first all-metal printed gun, a 1911 made by Solid Concepts of Autsin, Texas, has successfully fired more than 50 rounds. The pistol was made with a printer that formed the metal parts through a laser sintering process using powdered metals. Unlike the plastic “Liberator” pistol, which is good for only a few shots, and has exploded during ATF tests this gun has functioned through over 50 test shots.

Per this story from The Verge, according to Solid Concept’s Scott McGowan, “There are barriers to entry that will keep the public away from this technology for years.” 3D metal printers are very expensive and require special expertise to operate.
