Smoky Mountain Elk Butts Heads With Photographer

An elk vs. a photographer in a headbutting match is no contest, but this one goes on for several minutes. A man trying to photograph elk in the Cataloochee Valley in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in October got more of a closeup than he wanted when a young bull started butting heads with him. What starts as a little head rubbing turns into some more solid blows as the video progresses. Why the man didn't get up and leave isn't clear but even a spike antler can do plenty of damage.

That hat which must be drenched with preorbital gland scent after the encounter. If he wears that into the woods again without washing it first he might wind up butting heads with a much bigger, angrier elk that mistakes him for an intruder in its territory.
