Shark Kills Kayaking Angler in Hawaii

A shark attacked and killed a 57 year-old Washington man Monday while he was fishing from a kayak off the southwest coast of Maui.

According to Seattle NBC affiliate KING, police say Patrick Briney was dangling his foot off the side of his craft when a shark latched on. Briney's fishing partner tied a tourniquet around the injury and flagged down a nearby tour boat that took Briney to shore.

The species of shark that attacked Briney is unknown, but the incident is Maui's eighth and the state's 13th confirmed shark attack this year.
