You know that beer commercial that says sports-related superstitions are only weird if they don’t work? Well, Lawson Boyte, 12, from Louisiana would agree. He boated what will likely be certified as Louisiana’s newest record fish – a 114-pound blue cat pulled from the Mississippi River.

The humble Boyte admits it didn’t take any kind of skill to hook the cat, which weighed four more pounds than he does.

He said the catch was a surprise because he was not expecting the massive fish to fall for a small piece of bait. And he believes his lucky snack played a big part in the catch.

“It was more luck than it was skill to catch that big fish. I think the thing that done it was eating Vienna sausages,” he told KNOE Channel 8 News.
