Using a black bear’s natural fondness for sweets to lure it into a trap isn’t as easy as you might think. Case in point, the Pennsylvania Game Commission’s failed attempt to capture a bear in Tuscarora State Park with doughnuts.

A trail camera recorded a bruin on the scene on May 1. The bear was seemingly unalarmed by the trap’s presence and appeared more interested in receiving a backrub from a nearby tree. The clincher is the bear approaches the cage, stretches inside to steal a doughnut without springing the trap, and then wanders off to enjoy the treat.
