I’m very excited to be headed down near New Braunfels, Texas, to take part in the Guadalupe River Trout Unlimited (GRTU) general meeting this Saturday October 23rd. The meeting is held at the Canyon Lake CRCC Recreation Center. At 11 a.m., I’ll give a talk on some tips and tricks (the best ones), with stories on the latest gonzo adventures sprinkled in. And following that, we’ll have lunch.
I’ve been looking forward to this trip for a while. Did you know that with 4,000 members, the Guadalupe Chapter is the largest TU local chapter in the country? Also, this fishery happens to be the southernmost trout water in the continental United States. Perhaps best of all, I’m looking forward to meeting back up with my buddy Dylan Looze, who interned with TU this summer and joined me on some “Best Wild Places” adventures.
Then, next Wednesday, October 27th, I’m highly anticipating being near Lexington, Kentucky, to take part in the Bluegrass Trout Unlimited Chapter’s Fall Field Day. That’s going to be a great evening event, where we raise a little money, tell some stories, and then share some tips. As part of the program, the chapter will be raffling off a trip on the Cumberland River to take place the next day… I’ll be lucky enough to tag along… and we’ll take some hero photos to immortalize the winner right here on Fly Talk.
I’ll be signing books at both events also. So if you are in either neighborhood and would like some behind-the-scenes Field & Stream stories and answers (i.e. “Is Romano really only able to cast 37 feet with an 8-weight?” “Does Joe Cermele really wear pink shorts when he wet-wades?”), I’d love to meet you in person.
Two great chapters, two great events, one great common cause. Check out the groups’ websites for more detailed info. Hope to see you there.
