Today we have a short slide show on what is starting to seem like an impossible quest for me: catching a roosterfish of any size from the beach in Baja. I’ve tried many times with only one small fish to hand. That’s not to say I haven’t had a blast in the process.
A couple of weeks ago I was lucky enough to spend one day with my wife, Jeff Debrown _the_ guide for roosters on a fly and his friend Stacty Corbin of Mystic Waters Fishing traipsing up and down the famous beaches of the East Cape on ATVs. To be fair to Jeff it was more of a relaxed day with some friends rather than a full on guide day. There were no sign of cartels, no one was kidnapped, the food amazing and beer ice cold.
I had shots at fish too…plenty actually, I just couldn’t connect. I’m starting to realize the rooster fish game is one of, if not the toughest, fish on a fly. It’s also one of the most rewarding, visually stimulating, and spectator friendly forms of fly fishing too.
