My favorite weeks of the whole year have arrived. Why now? Well, the fact that the rivers have dropped and are now running clear has something to do with it. And all those grasshoppers jumping in the rivers, turning the trout onto the big bugs–that helps too. And the warm days/cool nights aren’t too shabby either.
But it’s really all about the peaches.
With all due respect to my friends from Georgia, Texas, California, and elsewhere, there is no argument. It isn’t even close. Colorado peaches are the best in the world. The only debate is which variety of Colorado peaches you favor (I’m a Red Haven man myself).
And there is nothing like eating a peach streamside on a hot, hopper, wet-wading afternoon. it might just be the perfect fishing-food combination. If there’s anything better, I want to hear about it.
