Awhile back, I proposed a simple poll: If you had a choice, what would you prefer to do for the rest of your life, hunt or fish? Well, the response was terrific and a majority of you said hunting (surprise, surprise) is the way to go. That got me thinking about the next level. If you could only hunt one small game animal for the rest of your life, what would it be? Squirrels? Rabbits? Doves? Are upland birds your addiction? Let me know. I’d choose either squirrels or rabbits. Both bring out something different in me. I like squirrels because it’s a lot like deer hunting. I like to sit at the base of a tree, wait and watch, or move slowly through the woods listening for one to bounce through crackling leaves. Rabbits, on the other hand, make me feel active. The walking, tracking footprints in the snow, and those few seconds when you either shoot or the rabbit disappears all kick-start my senses faster than a cup of morning joe. So what’s your favorite critter? —Ben
