I posted a short news tidbit not too long ago about the popularity of school-sponsored fishing competitions. Judging by the response here on Generation Wild, it’s an idea that would fly in a number of other schools around this country. School administrators, are you paying attention? Recently, I found this story about a middle school in South Carolina that’s taking the idea of mixing education and the outdoors a step farther. Palmetto Middle School is partnering with the state Department of Natural Resources and creating a series of outdoor-themed programs. If implemented, students will be able to choose from activities like boating, animal tracking, archery, and nature photography. Is anyone else’s school on the verge of creating similar programs? If so, what type of activities are they offering? —Ben
