Here is a good idea with good goals: A group of South Dakota State University students organized the school’s first fishing club. Student and club president Eric Weeman said he got the idea after seeing the popularity of the collegiate fishing circuit. Not surprisingly, Weeman wasn’t the only one excited about the idea. Eighteen other students showed up for the club’s first meeting and has since jumped to 21. If you think this club is just an excuse to sit around and talk fishing, you’re wrong. The club is currently organizing a May fishing tournament and hopes to someday create a youth fishing day and possibly a scholarship fund awarded annually to a local high school student. I never had the opportunity to be a part of a club like this. Maybe I should have started one myself. —Ben
