The first high-school state bass fishing tournament is in the books. This past weekend, 150 anglers from several high schools in Illinois met on Carlyle Lake for the bass fishing state finals. When the dust—I mean water—settled, Kaleb Gardener and Dylan Vaughn of West Frankfort High took home the trophy with a two-day total of 16 pounds 4 ounces of fish. If you want to know more about the event and the competing anglers, you can read more here. Or, check out this photo gallery from both days of competition. Join me in congratulating all the fine anglers who participated. Here’s to hoping other states pick up on the good thing Illinois has going and kick start similar competitions of their own. —Ben
