Bourjaily: A Gun Nut-Style Funeral

Burials aren't supposed to put a smile on your face, but this is the most feel-good funeral story I've ever seen. Ninety year old Lonnie Holloway of Saluda, SC, was buried at the wheel of the 1973 Catalina, with a $100 bill in pocket, and his guns in the trunk. He is buried next to his wife, who died two years earlier. His burial even made the news. Check out the video below.

Given that Lonnie Holloway lived a long and good life; was evidently much beloved by his friends and family; was an avid hunter; and left land to his church, it's hard to feel sad. This is like a bizarre, real-life alternate happy ending to Gran Torino.

This is how a gun nut goes out in style.
