Rapper turned reality star Flavor Flav has replaced quarterback Brett Favre as Remington’s celebrity spokesman.

In an e-mail survey conducted earlier this year respondents overwhelmingly chose Flav to become the new face of Remington over Favre, NASCAR legend Richard Childress, comedian Jeff Foxworthy, TV hosts Lee and Tiffany Lakosky and Atlanta Braves star Chipper Jones. Flav, shown here autographing a box of Remington shotshells for a fan, will shoot at the Grand American in Sparta, Illinois in August. His duties will include in-store appearances, celebrity hunts, and he will also promote Remington’s new “9-1-1 is a Joke” line of home-defense guns, ammunition, and large, bullet-resistant personal timepieces.

Unfortunately my April Fool’s post arrives three days too late. I have a good excuse: the picture above was taken Saturday, April 2 in Clinton, Iowa. That is, somewhat inexplicably, where New York native Flavor Flav has opened Flav’s Fried Chicken, the first of what he hopes will be a nationwide chain.

Our high school trap team won their first shoot of the year in nearby DeWitt and decided to celebrate with chicken afterwards. To their surprise they found Flav himself in the house so they got a team picture (that’s my son John to Flav’s left). Our head coach Dave thought quickly and fetched a box of shells from the car for Flav to sign. Alas I was not there, having stayed home to run practice for our new shooters. John says the chicken was very good, the side dishes only okay, and the prices were extremely reasonable.
