_A 39-year-old Thurston County resident lost part of his finger while setting a makeshift mole trap on his property Monday. . . .
Police said the homemade trap consisted of a steal plate with two stakes that held it to the ground. On the plate was a round piece with a screw holding a shotgun shell in place.
Above the shell was a trigger and spring-loaded striker set up to discharge the shotgun shell if a mole tripped the trigger.
The trap was apparently tripped by the man while he was setting it . . . ._
