Under new ownership, the Waco Tribune-Herald has fired Ted Nugent as a regular columnist. Claiming censorship, the Nuge has asked his fans to hit the “spineless, soulless, anti-American” paper–and hit it hard.

From Texas Monthly:

_The new editor of the Waco Trib recently told me that I could only write nice things about people, that I could not be critical. Basically, that I need to tone it down. I can not, nor will not, comply with this Romper Room request. . . .
_

I criticize where I
believe criticism is due. That’s my civic job and your job as Americans.
If the editor of this newspaper doesn’t like that, he will have to fire
me. I will not surrender to his wrong demands.

Editor Carlos Sanchez, for his part, is calling Nugent a coward.

From the Tribune-Herald:

_I must admit that Nugent’s rant angered me. Not so much because he was criticizing me — I get that all the time.
_

_But because he didn’t have the courage to confront me directly.
_

_In fact, his only communication with me was his expression of cooperation.
_

_The irony of this disagreement with Nugent is that I have been one of his biggest defenders.
_

Two years ago, I sustained a strong attack from the left that demanded that I pull his column after a concert he had in which he held up what appeared to be some semi-automatic weapons on stage and unleashed on candidate Barack Obama, “You might want to suck on these, you punk.”

So what does this have to do with you? Well, if you are a hunter or shooter who feels that the Nuge speaks for you, you’ve just lost part of your voice. If not, this news may not break your heart.
