From the Charleston Daily Mail:

_The mystery of how an ostrich egg ended up in the woods off Dutch Ridge Road finally has been cracked.
_

_And as it turns out, it was just a joke gone wrong.
_

_The mystery began last week, when Sherman Farley stumbled upon the egg while deer hunting. At 4.5 pounds and 18 inches around longways, it was pretty hard to miss. . . .
_

After reading the Farleys’ story in last Thursday’s Daily Mail_, those responsible for what turned out to be a little practical yolk – er, joke – stepped forward.
_

“I put it there for my brother, or whoever, to find while hunting,” [Herbert] Herold said. “I was just being ornery. I’m always doing stuff like that.”
