It’s not often you kick up a quail out here on the High Plains, so I took advantage of the rare opportunity (admittedly on the second shot) while pheasant hunting earlier this week. That night, in honor of Bob, I pan-fried the singular achievement with a lemon-soy marinade, served with rice noodles and steamed broccoli.

But enough about my food. We have several great reader photos this week, two of which will earn the cooks a copy of Mark Leslie’s new cookbook, Beyond the Pasta, which we featured earlier in the week.

Bob Millage sent us a shot from a dinner he enjoyed at whitetail camp this season: bacon-wrapped fillet mignon cooked on the grill with mushroom sauce, twice-baked potato, grilled asparagus, and wood-stove toasted bread.

Next on the menu is Dan Drew’s chicken-fried moose, with mashed potatoes and peppercorn gravy. As Dan said in his e-mail, “That’s eating!”

Steve Peifer served up some pan-grilled venison chops–dusted with a spice rub–and a mixed greens salad, apples, brie, and a homemade lemon vinaigrette.

John Lubeck made some pizza grilled on his Weber. I can’t tell if there’s wild game on it, but anything cooked on a Weber is good enough for us.

Our last course comes from Dan Schoonover–bacon-wrapped venison meatloaf. Awesome. Just awesome.
