It’s Friday, which means it’s time to announce the winner of the current Man’s Best Friend caption contest. Almost 130 of you took your best shot at making some sort of humorous sense of this photograph of a boy, a dog and a furbearer. As usual there were some good ones, some groaners and some that were just, well, weird.
Considering the breed (a “versatile” continental breed) and the quarry, I was a little surprised we didn’t see more references to NAVHDA hunt tests but be that as it may, here are a few standouts…
I have to admit, Levi Banks, who won the last contest, almost swept it again with “Yeah, but is he steady to tail.” Sperlock had a good one with “The National Ferret Fest and Martin Classic is next door, kid.”
I had to give props to reader Hammergun for his nod to one of the absolute classic Kipling stories (and Chuck Jones-animated film) of all time with “…there came a low hiss–a horrid cold sound that made Rikki-tikki jump back two clear feet.” Sobermanhoss’ “My eyes are down here” was a funny twist on a line that no doubt many of the male readers are familiar with, but the winner this week was JMWoods with his short, simple and very funny “Nope, Chuck Testa!”
Don’t know who Chuck Testa is?
Congratulations, JMWoods, the editors will be getting in touch with you soon.
