Back in January, the good folks at Cabela’s promised to spend all of 2011 celebrating their 50th Anniversary, and only a few weeks into the year-long party, they were already giving away stuff willy-nilly for our caption contests. Now that they’ve been whooping it up for 9 months, I can talk them out of pretty much anything.
Case in point: The prize for this caption contest is this pair of Cabela’s 50th Anniversary Limited Edition Boots by Meindl, which retail for about $400 (although they are on sale right now for about $350.
Let me just tell you about these boots: First, you should know that Cabela’s gave me a pair to test and keep, which might lead you to believe that I’m now obliged to say something nice about them. I am not. Lot’s of companies give me lots of stuff–lots of which I never write about. When I do, it’s because I really like the product, and I really like these boots.
I just returned from a backcountry elk hunt in CO, where I hiked some crazy-rugged terrain for a week in these things. They were outstanding–built like a Humvee on the outside and a Tempur-Pedic mattress on the inside, not to mention they come in a fancy wood box that makes you feel like a man who appreciates the finer things in life. They ain’t cheap and I cannot speak for their long-term durability, but stay tuned; I suspect that in 10 or 15 years, I will report–as I did with my $350 Danner Canadians–that these pricey boots are well worth the money, too.
Anyway, I don’t care if you buy a pair of not. And besides, you don’t need to buy them if you write the best caption (as decided by me) for the crazy photo above, which comes from a Photoshop contest on freakingnews.com.
Okay, have at it. Write a zinger, and Cabela’s with ship you these kick-butt boots.
