I caught a couple of bluefish 2 weeks ago around Gulf Shores under one of the bridge passes while casting 2-3" white grubs (a.k.a. "mister twisters") on a 1/8-oz jig head.
I kept a fast retrieve up, with some erratic jerks. There were no bluefish schooling that I could see. The same jig pattern also produced one small redfish and about 8 or 10 small pompano. No big fish, but a fair amount of fight on light tackle. Good luck!
