Its more a personal question. I perfer black labs but thats just me. I dont think it matters what color the dog is as long as it is trained well they will hunt with passion!
I pick the dog not the color. I've had two brown labs and three, no make that four, black labs. My brothers have had several yellow labs. They have all been great dogs (except one of my brothers' that was an idiot yellow male). In three of the litters colors were mixed. My wife couldn't understand why I would pick another black pup from a mixed litter two years ago when we already had a three year-old black one. Again, I picked the dog without considering color. And I even paid a premium price for an un-papered pup ($225.00) but I knew she was going to be great. And she is.
it doesn't matter it all depends on what you want i have three labs of Black Yellow and a Chocolate and they are all great so it depends on what you want
Blacks are better hand warmers. They also dry faster. That being said, my last two including my current dog, Glock, have been yellows. Great dogs, friends, and hunting and fishing buddies.
If you are planning to hunt upland game, the lighter the color, the easier it will be to spot the dog. I have found that it is much easier to keep an eye on a Brittany than a German Shorthaired Pointer.
I have a Black and a Chocolate. We bird hunt about 75 days a season..I'm still hunting Hungarian Partridge until the end of this month. It all depends upon the dogs training, and the owner/dog relationship. My dogs hunt very well, and would be even better hunters had I not made some mistakes in training.
And the Black is a male, and the Chocolate a small female.
do your homework , know what you want out of your dog . my last four have had very similair bloodlines helps a great deal in training. color and sex really dont matter much if you have a good pedigree.

You can't go wrong.

i think yellow looks the best but really it doesnt matter its more the dog that counts
You know that old saying about a book and the cover? Same thing with a dog, it's what's inside that counts.
I like the yellow labs best but whichever is best for you. The chemistry between you and the dog is the most important thing.

"I pick the dog not the color."
Ontario Honker has the choice piece of wisdom there. That goes for any dog, BTW.
Pick the dog you like best, not the color. But if it comes down to it yellow because you won't trip over them in the dark!!
I PREFER BLACK LABS.
Biologically there is no difference, the Black Labs don't show dirt as bad!
i want to own both but my black lab is enough of a companion for now. either way you will probably be happy.

I've had Blacks and Yellows. Never saw any difference in hidability. Pick the Dog not the color. WMH is correct though... Blacks show less road grime!
LOL!
Since they don't show as much "road grime", you might need to give them the sniff test before they come in the house!
We have not cared that much for color, ever.
Except the one time my wife wanted a Bombay cat.

Train it, take great care of it, doesn't matter the color just get it out hunting.
