i use a 7' med. lite fast action rod. if possible use a one piece. they are more sensitive than two pieces. what style of bait do you use? jigs? crankbaits? fast actions works good for jigs but if you use cranks i would go to a med. cause the weight of the crank makes the rod load better.

I like a 6'6", med. action. I concur on the one piece comment, although I find that I usually purchase 2 piece just for convenience of packing for travel.

I use a one piece also, except I use a 6' med action. But it all depends on what kind of lures/baits you will be using so get back to me on that and I will be able to help you further.

Well since you are going to be using jigs, you will want a med action, around 6'-6'6". You don't want too heavy of a rod because you want to be able to feel the fish bite, and if you hook into a big eye, it'll fight great. Keep your drag loose enough so your line doesn't break and you'll be fine when you set the hook into that 10 pounder!
