Q:
Just bought a new Rem 870 Super Mag... Shooting lead shot is fine, but 3" steel shot seems to produce major recoil - even kicks back on shooting hand. My buddy bruised his hand shooting it and he's been hunting for over 30 years... Anyone else have problems or know what may be wrong?

The Pump,SxS,Single shot gun produce the most Recoil
Auto Produce the least Recoial. IMO~ the Remington
11~87 Super mag or Winchester XSA are my pick if you are going to shoot 3" steel.

if the recoil is affecting your shooting i would invest in a quality recoil pad

Some of the new steel loads are pretty hot and fast producing a sharper recoil than you are probably used to. Either get lighter loads or get used to it. The newer 870s should have a good recoil pad. There are a few things you can do/add to your gun to reduce felt recoil. Ask your gunsmith or look up that info on here or in the magazine.

I figured it was just a matter of time before you big strong guys chimed in... Not a little guy and have shot plenty of 12 ga guns with big mix on shells. Went and shot exact same shells out of my 870 combo today with the same length barrel and choke. Not even close. I am talking about a violent kick. I don't think the recoil pad is going to prevent trigger guard from bruising the middle finger. Thanks for the feedback.
